The reason why they aren't showing more gameplay is that the gameplay sucks.  Who would be interested in these awful games is beyond me.

The only argument I've heard so far for Kinect is that people look like they're having fun playing it.  Thus Microsoft shows ads of people looking like they're having fun playing it.

They really don't want to show more gameplay.  It'll only dissuade people from buying it.

Seems to be a contradiction there.

If people are having fun, how can the games suck?  Don't you play games to have fun?

True, but those games don't look like fun to me.  Kinect is striving towards a different audience.  The most common argument I've gotten from gamers is that people look like they're having fun playing it, so it makes sense that this is what Microsoft shows.  It's smart advertising.  Don't worry, Kinect is sure to sell a ton, even if I think it sucks.

No.

How many of you haters have actually try'd Kinect?

I don't think they are good, but since my expectations were very low anyway I wasn't really disappointed.

I remember some days ago I criticized a Kinect Sports ad because it shows pretty much only game footage and not people playing the game. Well in that regard those ads were a lot better.

The first one had the children cuteness factor, but apart from that I think it was rather lame. Simply because what we saw the children do (waving your fingers and lying on the gound) did not at all remind me of interaction with a pet.

The second video looked a bit more fun, but in contrast to the other two videos the problem of being forced to stand instantly came into my mind. The actors seemed like being nailed to the ground and I saw no good reason why they had to stand.

The last video would be the one most likely to catch my interest, even though most of the gameplay (=running in place) did not seem to be long fun either. Football was the only sport this ad would make me interested in trying out.

Here is what we call a good ad.  Whatever these videos are, I have no idea.

V:  And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night I sought to end that silence.

Horrible ads, but I doubt its going to affect its sales.

The first ad i know soon as my 4 year old nephew see's that he will want it.

The 2nd ad looked like some trippy Japanese cartoon or something and the 3rd looked like a rip off of the Wii Sports ad.

But that is what MS are doing. They are going after the group who don't have a 360 and that is the casual group. The people who have no clue what metacritic is, no clue what sells what. Only caring about having fun with their kids/friends.

The problem with hardcore gamers is that they have become kinda selfish. They want every game to be for them and if it isn't then it is instantly crap. You get your mates round, have some drinks and play something like Rock Band and you laugh your ass off. It is the interactive side of it that makes it appealing, not so much what your seeing on the screen.

I will get it just for the voice stuff, but i know that playing it with friends will be fun, such as it was designed for.

Target audience in clearly family oriented non-gamers and the ads are spot on for that audience, they are selling the idea not the game and that is exactly what they should be doing. We as gamers may not like this but people that don't normally buy consoles (a lot of current Wii owners) will like this.
