Forums - General - racial breakdown of America’s biggest cities

When working out today I had a theory that I wanted to check out when I got home ... The cities with the greatest racial segregation also seem to have the greatest gap between black and white highschool student graduation rates.

Makes sense, the majority black areas are most often probably the less well off parts of a city.  Not to say whites don't live in crappy areas, but yeah.  More integrated places perhaps have a better geographic distribution of wealth?

Oddly enough though, it usually has little to do with school funding.  Often times those minority areas with the worst rates get lots of funding.

The story I linked to is from your country. It seems some people in the UK find it interesting.

As a general guideline, the more a person protests that they don't notice or pay attention to peoples' race the more likely they're to treat you differently because of your race.

Studying why one group is performing worse in some (or all) areas, while rejecting the default hypothesis of some progressive individuals (that it is because of "racism"), can lead to a much better general understanding of how to promote success within that area. Ignoring that there are differences does not benefit anyone.

Ehm... can't you guys wait for the 2010 version?

The maps are based on information from the 2000 census, but Mr Fischer, 37, said in a blog on his Flickr site: ‘I intend to do a 2010 version as soon as the census finishes tabulating the data. I think the full release is planned for next June.’

So you lump all the readers of a site into one group, and then make a generalized assumption about them all.

Good thing you're not racist.

just read some of the articles and comments, in fairness probably not all of them are, just many, many of them, and no, im not racist, not liking bigots is not the same as racism, if you think it is, then let me know so I can leave this thread as clearly you are not worth my time.
