Forums - Gaming - Nintendo Wii or Playstation 3?

My method would be this:

Pick up the Wii

Wait until sixaxis is phased out for dualshock 3 and the PS3 picks up some games (probably this time next year it'll have a lot of great ones)

Sell 360 (hope it doesn't brick before then) and use the cash to buy a PS3

Then you have the Wii as your social machine and the PS3 as your personal machine. There's nothing the 360 can do that the PS3 can't. There's a truckload of things the Wii can do that the PS3 and 360 can't.  Keep an eye out for deals like 10 free blu-ray movies or or 2 free games with a PS3.

Just like I would have trouble believing someone with a Mario is God avatar, I have trouble taking advice on what console to buy from people with any kind of a RRoD avatar.

I love the DS, but buying it a third time is something I'm not going to do.

Well yeah, how could anyone smart/awesome enough to use a KP avatar lie to you?

 Very carefully.

Words of wisdom indeed.

You're absolutely right, because my 360 didn't just brick on me for the 3rd time in 11 months, Nostradamus.

  1.  I wasn't aware this was a bashfest about 360 hardware, way to introduce that chuckles.
  2. Just because you have shitty luck doesn't mean everyone else does.
  3. He wasn't hinting in any way at all he's interested in selling his 360.  As far as we know he's happy with it.
  4. Thanks for confirming your bias.
  5. Nostradamus?  God you're lame.

Buy a Wii, you'll get access to all the Nintendo exclusives and the games are $10 cheaper.

He's asking what console to pick up. As much as I loved the 360 there's no way I'd endorse it anymore, and in fact if anyone asked I'd actively suggest them avoiding the 360 or getting rid of it if they have one.

~20-30% of the consoles have broken down so far, that's much more than 1 guy with bad luck. That's a trend and it's called "unreliable hardware"

He's asking for advice, I'm advising him to ditch that ticking time bomb--better sooner than later.

It's a well earned bias. It's not like I woke up one day and magically hated the 360. I stuck with it about 2 RRODs longer than I should have. There's a difference between a "Mario is God" avatar by someone who never owned a 360 and someone who took an $800 initial plunge (games and extra controller, xbl, etc), loved the games, and got coffins in return for the investment. My avatar is, if anything, well earned from dealing with MS customer support.

Sorry for seeming like I flew off the handle. My 360 died 2 hours into Assassin's Creed and it's a wee bit frustrating when this becomes the norm. It did the same thing with Forza 2. Yes, right now it has the games, but what's the point when you can't play them? How long past that 3 year warranty does someone honestly expect their 360 to last before they have to pay $140 for repairs? What if MS dumps supports as soon as their next console comes out like they did the original xbox?

About this time last year, I was on board for making fun of the PS3. PS3 grill, $599, no games, BROWN, FailStation 3, Suxasses, LOLair. I got as much of a chuckle as anyone out of that time. I jumped on the 360 and supported MS early and remained pretty active in the 360 corner. If you think it's as simple as flipping a fanboy switch after a year and $1000+ investment over that time you're crazy.

If you're going to own only 2 consoles, there's no point in going both PS3 and 360. The experience is roughly the same. The Wii experience is wildly different than both. It is also a very social machine where the PS360 is online or 2 player oriented. There was also a caveat: if the PS3 gets its ass in gear. Will it? I don't know, no one does at this point, but their survival depends on this next year.

Maybe this way 1 less person will have to deal with RROD just starting a new game they preordered and bought 10 months prior to release.
