yes but if the info is a lie then it kind of is fear mongering.

Nope, if this update disables any device then any warning is just that, a simple warning.  Making up percentages was silly of course by the OP but that still doesn't change the fact people need to know their devices could stop working after this update.

You're just hiding behind the fear mongering excuse because you hate seeing bad press for Sony for some strange reason, it's not like this is hitting your pocket though is it?

But maybe you're claiming it's NOT fear mongering because you like bad PS3 press.  The logic cuts both ways.

Believe what you like, there is no debate to be had in these boards, it's rather pathetic.

From all three sides in fact.  But when info has been misrepresented (which I believe in this case because according to ancedotal evidence it's not as bad as some have made it out to be), it's either just simple ignorance or malicious FUD.

Damn those EVIL Sony bastards!  MS is so much better!  They would never do anything like this EVER!

How is this even remotely the same? The Datel memory cards were being used for cheating. Are third party controllers being used for cheating?

Read the whole thread, please.

I can still copy porn from my portable HDD to my PS3 and then transfer that porn to my Cell Phone from my PS3 so I'm good.  I was worried for a moment, though.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

If they have turbo or macro functions, yes. Those are illegal in sanctioned competitions.

Of course a lot of third party controllers probably end up selling to owners who just want to save a few bucks on cheaper, unliscensed peripherals, to which the appropriate response is always: "buyer beware."

Non-functional:

MadCatz 2008 Wireless/Wired PS3 GamePad/MicroCon

MadCatz Super Street Figher IV Wireless FightPad First Generation

Splitfish FragFX V1

Venom PS2 to PS3 Adapter

Subsonic Arcade Sticks

Psyclone wireless controllers

Blaze PS3 FIGHTSTICK

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

The fucking Fight Pad is outlawed!?  That's a big deal.  Those things were in short supply when SF4 came out and sold for crazy amounts ofmoney. I almost bought one when my 360 was broken andI wanted SF4 (saw it in a game rental store).  I thought they WERE officially licensed!

That's a list most PS3 owners could live with.

Just a little off from 75% of all third party (meaning anything non-liscensed) peripherals. Just a bit.

I actually bought a Splitfish FragFX V1 back in 2008. It didn't work as advertised, had to have its firmware flashed out of the package to work (only downloadable off the FragFX site) after which it still didn't really work and was then returned for a refund. I rarely return anything I buy.

Now please tell me your point,

From the OP: "Counterfeit PlayStation®3 Wireless Controllers [...] in some cases, may be dangerous. It is possible that some counterfeit product may ignite or explode, resulting in injury or damage to the user, your PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, or other property."

Not enough?

"They restricted access  through usb to combat jailbreakers using dongle like things."

More?

Some unlicensed 3rd party controllers are disabled.

If you read all this, why did you say:
