yes but if the info is a lie then it kind of is fear mongering.

Nope, if this update disables any device then any warning is just that, a simple warning.  Making up percentages was silly of course by the OP but that still doesn't change the fact people need to know their devices could stop working after this update.

You're just hiding behind the fear mongering excuse because you hate seeing bad press for Sony for some strange reason, it's not like this is hitting your pocket though is it?

You're kidding right? I'm not sure how to respond to this...did you read the rest of the thread?

Yes I did, this updates disables at least one device, in all likelyhood there will be more.

Carry on attacking the OP though, I expect nothing less in a critical thread in the Sony forums, it's almost as bad as praise threads in the Microsoft forums for it.

Man, you're really fishing there....

Sony firmware: it only disables everything.

Damn those EVIL Sony bastards!  MS is so much better!  They would never do anything like this EVER!

"Sony issued a consumer alert earlier this week advising all PlayStation 3 owners to only use first-party, genuine PS3 wireless controllers. The company says counterfeit controllers, which look identical in appearance, have been introduced into the market and could explode.

"SCEA advises consumers to be cautious when buying PlayStation 3 wireless controllers from uncertain sources as the quality, reliability and safety of counterfeit products is uncertain, and in some cases, may be dangerous," Sony warns.

"It is possible that some counterfeit product may ignite or explode, resulting in injury or damage to the user, your PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, or other property."

Sony also said it plans to introduce software updates to disable these counterfeit and unlicensed controllers."

If they did disable something, it's likely this and it's not a bad thing, unless you're the one making and selling these exploding controllers.

Currently playing: Gran Turismo 5
Just finished:
Infamous 2

There are very slim number of devices where disabled. I had report of some guy on other forum with 3td party "Sixaxis", that does not work anymore. And another guy had his old Logitech controller disabled.

FragFX is not working with 3.50 but you can fix it with FragFX patch.

I am surprised that was not brought on this forum before 3.50 is released a while ago, I guess you guys do not use much China devices out there, as we do in Russia 8)

I can confirm, that Hori fightstick, Rockband and Guitar Hero devices work fine.

But maybe you're claiming it's NOT fear mongering because you like bad PS3 press.  The logic cuts both ways.

Believe what you like, there is no debate to be had in these boards, it's rather pathetic.

Well I believe Novasonic is wrong about the forced firmware I can't remember a single game that has forced me to get the latest firmware, what certain games actually DO is update some of the BIOs to support certain functions but while they do this it also checks for homebrew BIOs and disables and replaces them with the original files.

But as far back as I can remember PSP games have forced firmware cause you could never take your PSP online ever and be just fine, so it seems the only logical way to get that firmware out anyway.

Also Nintendo has never disabled functions on the Wii via firmware nor has Sony on the PSP, mostly because people just out right hacked the battery and how the fuck can you disable a portables battery?  You can't so they're boned on that one.

Forced PS3 updates are a lot more annoying... especially when I've slowly lost a lot of functions, USB hard drive function (used to play my music from my external), other OS (when I was looking into installing Linux), and now I can't buy a cheap controller *sigh* it's hurt those that have been properly using their PS3

How is this even remotely the same? The Datel memory cards were being used for cheating. Are third party controllers being used for cheating?
