1.From the OP: "Counterfeit PlayStation®3 Wireless Controllers [...] in some cases, may be dangerous. It is possible that some counterfeit product may ignite or explode, resulting in injury or damage to the user, your PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, or other property."

Not enough?

2."They restricted access  through usb to combat jailbreakers using dongle like things."

More?

Some unlicensed 3rd party controllers are disabled.

4.If you read all this, why did you say:

How is this even remotely the same? The Datel memory cards were being used for cheating. Are third party controllers being used for cheating?

Perhaps you need to refresh your memory: http://www.techflash.com/seattle/2010/08/microsoft_datel_settle_dispute_over_controllers_not_antitrust.html

1. lol at Sony propaganda. I just googled it and the only things I see being mentioned are quotes from Sony. Looks like Sony just being greedy. Wanting to sell more of it's own controllers

2. Sony should just say that. "We are afraid of piracy so those controllers you bought can't be used anymore" :D

4.  a. iirc he linked to MS blocking memory cards that could and often would be used for cheating

      b. You are comparing Sony blocking 3rd party controllers to MS suing over copyright infringement?

      c.  THe link you posted doesn't say anything about them being blocked. In fact it's still being sold

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

Actually, I think this is mostly meant to block the Dongle used to play pirate games on the PS3.  Unfortunately, a small amount of controllers no longer work, either.  Should Sony have said as much?  Sure.  But hey, it's their company to run.

And your comment about Sony being greedy can be said about MS, as well.  "Looks like MS is greedy and just wanted to sell a few more of their own memory cards."  See?  In fact, numerous companies have made controllers that look quite a bit like the Dual Shock, so where are the Sony lawsuits over design copyright?

The reason for my original post was to point out the hypocrasy of some 360 supporters bashing Sony for blocking some USB devices, but who would probably defend MS for doing something EXTREMELY similar.  Thanks for reinforcing my point.

No. You came in and started trolling MS. I don't care what MS does it doesn't do.

yes, if Sony feels that someone is infringing on their pantents(WHICH IS ILLEGAL!) then yes, they should sue just like Microsoft.

Yes, Microsoft is greedy

And lets look at what MS did! They blocked cheaters then a month or two later they stopped making memory cards and started supporting flash drives. Greedy greedy MS >=(

lol MS fan. I do call myself one, but usually the site doesn't agree with that. Last week in a Halo thread I wasn't even considered an xbox owner :/

Take it up with the Madcats service department. They'll send you an appropriate replacement.

It should be pointed out that it's up to third party peripheral manufacturers to ensure that their goods stay compatible with the platform they're supposed to work with.

It's not on the platform manufacturer to ensure that unlicensed gear works on their hardware.

O_o And I updated without even looking at what was changed, good to know external HDD still works as I need to do my daily backup routine.

I understand Sony are trying to prevent piracy and they have only blocked certain 3rd party usb devices, but at this rate they will end up pushing away some of the people that bought ps3, none of this was required, this time I do not agree with Sony, there are better ways of preventing this that only affect pirates/hackers.

it's the future of handheld
