Forums - Sony - Why are games selling so poorly on PS3?

I looked at the million seller list and it just has 2 games on it for the PS3.  Both are first party and got a lot of their sales from being packins.  So why are games selling so horribly on it?  Is that why Sony executives have been telling us that third party exclusives are going to be a thing of the past?  I haven't had this feeling since the Sega Saturn.

I was surprised to learn that Sony charges third parties more to put a game on their system than Microsoft does with Xbox 360.  Plus it cost more to make a blu-ray disc than a dual-layer dvd.  So in your opinion why should third parties choose the Playstation 3 over the competition?  Also Sony has a lot of systems in Japan where shooters and other games sell very poorly so why would Europe and USA third parties want to make games for it when Xbox 360 has most of it's owners in Europe and US?

I used to be Sega hardcore and then I lost faith.  I used to be Sony hardcore and I'm losing faith.

What are you talking about.

AC & COD 4 are ABOUT to hit a million

in EU Ps3 is VERY POWERFUL software wise

This week even in USA it did good software wise

Attach rates are looking good for most games

My prediction for YEARS END:

WII - 18.3 Million

Xbox 360 - 15 Million

Playstation 3 - 8.5 Million

From my point of view the ps3 is gaining strength not losing it.

The attach ratio in Japan is terrible for PS3 though. In Pal we cant really tell yet without more past data though it is certainly better than in USA, where it is about average for one y/o, the reason it only has 2 million sellers is because its average attach ratio is not enough when there are not enough systems.

My question is more like: Why do certain PS3 games sell poorly?

I mean, If Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed can tear up the (PS3) charts like they are, why did Racthet fall so hard? And Uncharted? These games were both hyped by Sony and are exclusives, so why are they being passed up for 3rd party games you can get elsewhere?

It's not as bad as it looks. Attach rate for the PS3 is very respectible, the main issue is that the PS3 has the lowest installed base, about only half of the 360's and Wii's.
360 has also been out for two years instead of one, making it look to be totally dominate in that respect.
While I havn't verfied, I think if you compare PS3 software sells 1st year to 360 1st year or PS2 1st year, you'll see it's doing fine in comparison.

While no one can say 100% my guess would be:

Heavenly Sword: Too short - people rent instead

Drake's Fortune: Too short - people rent instead/New IP/Looks like Laura Croft Rip-off/Seems to have legs though

Rachet & Clank - Too casual for the hardcore FPS crowd that paid $600 for PS3's.  Has good legs though will do okay long-term

Warhawk - Online only

Lair - ummm.... I've no idea....

@claude

Hype n TV ads for COD4 n Ac were much more

+ Ratchet (God that game deserved SO MUCH MORE) doesn't appeal to the non "kiddy" Ps3 audience, even tho thegame isn't kiddy it's being perceived like that

as for UC - it's released in ONLY USA so far & even there it's shown great legs...lets see how it goes on for it

Time to Work !

Cheap BLU-RAY player firstly, games console second?

Someone that wants it more for the BLU-RAY function may only buy 1 game, if any at all.

If I wanted a BLU-RAY player I would buy a PS3 but BLU-RAY has nothing to offer me.

PS2 had a lot to offer with it's DVD player becasue there was a BIG jump between DVD and VHS video with its grainy picture, distorted muffled sound, having to wait 10 minutes to forward and rewind and taking forever to find the scene you are interested in watching.

The jump between DVD and BLU-RAY is insignificant unless you are a VERY KEEN movie fan.

The Wii plays games and only plays games.

The Xbox 360 is primeraly a games machine and HD-DVD player a very distant second.
