so its safe to say that games on next box will come in 4 discs?

He isn't talking about nextbox. He's answering a question about X360, it isn't that difficult to understand if you try.

No, but zgamer5 is talking about the nextbox by logicly speculating.  "It isn't that difficult to understand if you try."

Well, he can't speculate about the nextbox with an answer about X360. It's not logical.

It's logical when you consider the bigger picture that a handful of developers THIS gen have complained about DVD storage "restraints" when compared to Blu-ray.

Please, read again the original quote. What Zgamer said is that nextbox wont use blurays. We can't imply that with this quote, we can't imply that nextbox will use dvds.

I found this story about PC gaming embracing DD to be interesting:  http://www.pcworld.com/article/205979/why_digital_downloads_are_soaring_on_pcs_not_consoles.html?tk=hp_new

So does that mean it really IS the future for next gen?  Not for Sony, because they have royalties tied to disc formats that they'd be foolish to give up.  But what about MS and Nintendo?

Anyway, as for THIS gen of GAMING, Blu Ray has proved to be a superfluous luxury.  The movie thing is debatable, though.  Does anyone have a link to a professional comparison between the same movie 1080p downloaded through the Zune marketplace or Playstation store and one played on Blu Ray?

As long as SONY allows for DD of some retail titles, I don't see the issue here.  It can very very plausable to argue that the profits made from a DD outweighs the revenue earned from royalties.  Both ways, SONY can benefit.

PR quotes should always be taken with a fistful of salt.  In worst case scenario, what zgamer said was a jab, but no worse than McGill's.  It's thator DENIAL.  But logicly, if you don't recognize a need now, then you probably won't see the need later.  Fact: Developers have complained about the DVD storage "restraint" this gen.  Another fact: No one needs Blu-ray, no one needs DVD's, no one needs video games or movies.

Why people keep saying the same old lie that Sony can block the use of a Blu Ray drive to MS or Nintendo? Sony is one of multiple companies in the Blu Ray consortium, they don't have veto.

microsoft on board with the blue ray makers but they dont use it

Just basing on what Sony themselves have said about the next generation of Playstation.  http://www.mcvuk.com/news/40618/Hirai-PS4-not-download-only?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed: mcvuk/oXMK (MCV: games industry news)

I don't care to know what these console makers say because of PR.  But I will say that SONY allows for DD of retail games via PSN.  Also, I know that royalties from media sales (Blu-ray) is only one means of revenue while royalties from 3rd party sales is another.  Bottom line: if SONY is making more revenue from 3rd party software via DD than from Blu-ray sales, then good for them.  At least it's coming from at least two fronts.

"As for movies, Avatar broke all records for Blu-ray sales in the UK and has sold a stunning 6.2 million copies. Blu-ray disc sales in Q1 2010 almost doubled those of 2009 and the current outlook for the format is ‘bullish’."

Well...

That's that. 6.2 Million copies in the UK alone eh? I wonder how many people have downloaded it on the 360 in the UK

There is no way Avatar has sold 6.2m blu-ray copies in the UK... surely thats simply not possible.

Has any DVD ever come close to 6.2m copies in the UK...?

There are only about 23m housholds in the UK, I doubt there are anywhere near 6.2m blu-ray players installed.

Yes, Mamma Mia! has probably passed 6 million units by now, because by the end of 2008, that movie had sold more than 5 million DVDs in UK alone.

So, to use a media format in a future console, you have to see the benefit of using it in todays console. It makes complete sense.
