Forums - Gaming - UK Xbox Boss: “Who Needs Blu-ray?”

Its just as good as asking who cares about games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 2 or GOd of War 3...and even like asking who gives a damn on Avatar's Blue-Ray...

He is not attacking movies or games...just sayin that bluray is not necessary for a console. And I agree, I'd much rather have sony take out bluray and put in a badass video card when it came out. 8800 GTX for example...

I don't mind installing or swapping discs...which is funny cause MGS4 has manditory chapter isntalls and lots of other PS3 games have installs as well.

who would buy avatar on DVD, what a waste

There are people who still think VHS is a good medium....or better yet, why do people bother watching a video recording of a movie that a guy made while sitting in a theater pointing the camera at the screen....I've heard people talk about watching stuff like The Dark Knight that way...and that just sounds Terrible

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

I don't like streaming movies or digital downloads. I want to buy my games and have them on my shelf. Not everyone has a fast connection and some don't even connect online. I don't think that digital streaming will replace the drives on the future consoles for example the next xbox. If that happens they will have high sales only in countries where internet connections are cheaper and a lot faster, most probably US and UK

Why people keep saying the same old lie that Sony can block the use of a Blu Ray drive to MS or Nintendo? Sony is one of multiple companies in the Blu Ray consortium, they don't have veto.

Cause it makes them feel good so they can sleep comfortable at night...

no dude, I was done with swapping discs after the ps1 era, Microsoft can can have the badass video card, I'll stick with my lovely blu ray and it's installs, I mean can you imagine it, GT5 on 5 disc...... oh wait 360 fan, you can imagine it. I guess it's one of those you'll never know how good it is until you try it, that statement also goes to the nsmbwii comment.

besides by next gen installs will be a thing of the past as blu ray will be (and already is) an improved technology

Can my family or other people with 384kb DSL or dial-up connections watch " full HD 1080p Blu-ray quality streaming instantly"? No.

Can I watch " full HD 1080p Blu-ray quality streaming instantly" in a house without internet access or when the ISP has a problem or when the streaming server is down because too many people try to watch the same stream at a time? No.

Mmh...

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

Its funny how on one hand you are completely against swappinig disks, while on the other hand you are for bluray and swapping different game discs and not for digital distribution where there is no swaps what so ever. I believe that is what they call an oxymoron.

BTW I have a PS3 too...and I really enjoyed the 3-5 minute installs in MGS4 every chapter. I have yet to play a game which needs me to swap discs on the 360...and you can look through my achievements...I've played a lot of games.

Also, next gen may not be here for a while and may not even use physical storage medium...but do share the any info on sonys brand new "32X bluray drive" which they are going to use in the PS4. Give us the scoop...

digital is good and dandy for convenience sake, but i think the majority of people like hard copies of games and movies just in case some technical problems occur.  or at least thats why i like hard copies.

Well, if they would only go digital distribution, that would be the end of my console gaming...I hate that format of stuff.  You can't resell it, it is rarely on sale, and defiantely never on sale as much as stuff is on the internet nowadays.  As for people who mentioned Nintendo, do you remember the Gamecube?  How much did you enjoy swapping disks there...because the first time I played one, I had to and it was the dumbest thing I've ever done.

I really do think going digital distribution only would be the end of gaming though, because sooooooo many people would just give up the hobby.d

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
