Forums - Microsoft - kinect and japan 360 sales

Microsoft's biggest exclusives don't have allure in Japan. They don't play shooters much so Halo and Gears have little to no impact in Japan. Fable is a western RPG and those don't sell much either. So either MS buys big Japanese exclusives like Monster Hunter or a Tales game but then gamers look around and see more Japanese style games on other platforms. So either they need to spend a ton of cash and buy exclusive access to enough games that they just can't say no to.

Sorry man, but the 360 does not have love in Japan. 1.4 million units is dismal when compared to how it sells overseas, and in comparison to the competition. If anything you could say Japan has a mildly, luke warm, interest in the 360.

It really is sad. The 360 deserves better.

I used to think it was the brand name. Japanese are reluctant to embrace a foreign product because they dont know or are not trusting of the name. But then the Apple Ipod, Iphone and Ipad came out which pretty much shot that theory to hell. i-macs still sell like crap though.

You ignore the software the 360 has. Western games don't sell well on any console in Japan. Not only does the PS3 have a built in fanbase from past Sony consoles, but it also has biggest exclusives in Japan.

The problem isn't so much that Xbox 360 is American. The PS3 offers much more of what they enjoy. If the 360 got big Japanese exclusives regularly, sales would be much bigger.

This year MHFO is the only big game the 360 got in Japan that the PS3 did not. But its been on the PC for years and it has low system requirements.

One game came in 2008 and its on the PS3 now. The other game has been on the PC for years.

The PS3 gets big exclusives in Japan all the time as well.
