Forums - Microsoft - kinect and japan 360 sales

we know microsoft getting some big japanese talent for kinect exclusives  like project draco , grasshopper, konami etc,     but my question is will kinect exclusive line up of titles sell 360 hardware consoles in japan ??

Don't think so.

Whether Suda51 is making a good Kinect game or not isn't going to change anything.

Neither Move or Kinect will do anything major in Japan. Move isn't gonna push the PS3 numbers close to Wii in Japan and Kinect won't do anything to get close to PS3.

is their anything microsoft can do over in the rising sun

X360 is doing great in America and Europe and it's shown that they don't exactly need Japan to succeed.

Obviously Japan matters to Sony and Nintendo due to being native Japanese Companies.

So to answer your question, no there's nothing X360 can do to make itself popular in Japan but MS has shown that for them Japan doesn't need to succeed in order for the X360 to succeed overall.

then what does microsoft need to do to make themselves popular on that side they have been the rpg of console this generation ... so kinect wont change japanese gamers attention to the 360 will it help them tho for the  3rd xbox console then? and thanks for answerin my questions

Its simple, they need to get more EXCLUSIVES that appeal to the Japanese market. Unfortunately, I don't think there wasn't anything particularly impressive at TGS.

However, I predict the 360 will see a significant boost over there with the release of the Kinect.

You see I really don't know what MS can do to make the Xbox popular in Japan.

A New Xbox 360 Model Launch with a Monster Hunter online game that came with 12 Month Gold Live Member failed to outsell the PS3 and Wii on the same week. And look at bad the X360 is doing right now in Japan even with a remodeled X360. It's in the 2000's.

X360 has been the console for WRPG's this Gen. The X360 might have a few JRPG's but none of them had any impact at all. See at first MS invested in these JRPGs but they didn't break through for the Japanese. That's why Tales of Vesperia got a PS3 port and the PS3 version outsold the X360 versions lifetime sales in it's first week of release in Japan. And even now that's why the PS3 is getting an Exclusive Tales of game. It's not just with RPGs either. Bayonetta was know for a crappy PS3 port and yet on the PS3 version outsold the X360 completely in Japan.

One reason why the X360 hasn't been popular is because the Japanese are not big on Social Gaming on Consoles. So there's no reason for them to pay for Xbox Live to go online when they can easily go Online with the PS3 for free if they want to and I bet there are many Japanese Gamer who own a PS3 but don't have a PSN account because they really don't need it for Online Gaming, etc.

Who really knows what will happen with the next gen Xbox. But going by this gen, it looks like it won't be big in Japan once again. I mean earlier on this gen the PS3 was more expensive in Japan and yet it still outsold the X360 so if a console that is more expensive and 'had no games' beats a console that's cheaper and has JRPGs early in the Gen, then that's a pretty good indication that the PS4 will be dominant over the next Xbox in Japan.

Its sad. The japanese have no love for the 360. But it's MS' fault. They totally botched the launch. RROD and the failed launch release of DEAD or Alive sunk the 360 before it ever had a chance to go anywhere. Kinect wont do a thing for the 360 in Japan unless it blows up huge with big time support from all the major developers. And even then 360 will never overtake the PS3 or Wii in weekly sales.

Well, at first I would say there isn't much that Microsoft could do to change things in Japan that they haven't already tried to do.  Japan is a very finicky country with weird tastes and wants.  But with the recent TGS, lines were over 2-3 hours long for Kinect and that shows me that at the very least Kinect has some of the Japanese peoples interest.  I would imagine that if Kinect doesn't push 360 games in Japan, nothing will.  Kinect is going to be very quirky and this is something that the Japanese people may jump behind.  So while I don't think it will make a huge difference.  I do believe it will help with overall sells.

People blame RROD, lack of exclusive rpg titles, and a few other things for reasons why the 360 isn't succeeding in Japan, and I say they are wrong.  Microsoft really has tried to cater to the Japanese people this entire generation and they just don't want to have any of it.  Its sort of like trying to sell an American car in Japan, it just isn't going to happen.  So I do believe that at least with gaming and cars the Japanese people are xenophobes.   Other than Iphones and Ipods what else thats "American" do the Japanese people really dig?  No I am not calling the Japanese people racists.

Racism implies a belief in your race's superiority over all others and explicit verbal interactions against other races. This is not the word to use concerning Japanese and video games.

I would use the term xenophobic, which one can cogently argue the Japanese most certainly are when it comes to consoles and video game software developed outside of Japan. Just look at the Japan pre-order charts, how many non-Japanese developed games do you see? Furthermore, how many million plus sellers in the West and everywhere else do you see selling in comparable numbers in Japan? Good luck googling that.

My opinion, Microsoft should stick to what they are doing and forego the Japanese market entirely for Brazil, China (when they allow consoles to be sold as they are currently banned) and India instead. Much larger populations in up and coming emerging markets, thus forth no need to cater to the Japanese crowd. Save the catering for Nintendo and Sony.
