Forums - Sony - Vaio RemotePlay Software Available Now

Was having some Wifi trouble and went searching eSupport.SONY.com to see if there was an update to the drivers that might fix my problem(and luckly there was, and I'm downloading that now). Then I decided, "well... since I'm here, might as well see what else is new". Then I noticed the "Remote Software" category and never saw that before. Thought it would have something to do with some Remote Desktop feature. The two items I saw though are:

The description of remote keyboard says that your PC acts as a Bluetooth keyboard for your PS3. Frees me up one USB port

Remote keyboard works perfectly and support my touchpad as a mouse in the browser.  Seems that I havd a problem installing remoteplay, though. Gonna reinstall

Your wifi problems is because PSN is under maintenance

That's pretty cool. That would definitely make typing out messages to PSN friends much easier and quicker.

Can you explain exactly how it works? Is there a program you open when you want to type to your PS3? Can you easily switch between typing to your laptop and typing to your PS3?

It's been around for ages, and I am fairly sure it ONLY FOR VAIO

Anyway, it came pre-installed with my laptop, and so when you turn on your laptop, with remote keyboard, you literally use it as a keyboard with your mousepad as you would expect and you can use both controllers that are connected simultaneously

@Severance

I meant Wifi probs with my laptop. Been happen' from time to time for some reason. Though i admit, I was freaked out earlier when i noticed i couldn't sign in. Thought my account was jacked then I remembered maintenance.

@Arcturus

Install. Launch like any other program [keep it on my task bar]. On the PS3 you go to register bluetooth device, your PS connects, the PS3 gives you a code to enter on your laptop and your done. It's pretty short and straight forward. Then you can just run the program anytime. When you do it asks "previously connected PS3" or "Other PS3". When you have it activated there's a black message on your PC screen that says you're using Remote keyboard. Everything else you have open is there and visible but every button you press is for the PS3 so can't do anything with your laptop. Works exactly like having a keyboard connected to your PS3. When you want to quit it CTRL ATL Backspace.

@Munkeh

Says the software for my vaio specifically just released 9 days ago so beats me.

For some reason when I try to run remote play it says I'm missing a file. Downloaded and installed twice. I just searched up the DLL and copied it to the program folder.  As for as I can tell, it exaclty the same as RemotePlay on PSP. It's a small windowed program though but still nice to have.

@IMU1808: Thanks for explaining how it works.

Is this the exact same as remote play on PSP? I never use that but have a VAIO so might get this and see what the craic is.

Any features you guys actually use - other than the bluetooth keyboard?

This is not an exit.
