As I read the news day in and day out I notice something very disturbing. Out of the three major wars going on right now (Somalia, Afghanistan, Mexico) Mexico is increasingly looking more and more dangerous to North American interests.I was reading death figures of mass graves with over 75 bodies found under a thin layer of dirt. Was that the Taliban's doing in Afghanistan..... No it was the doing of Mexican crime syndicates.
The drug war has been going on for three years and bullets have even crossed into America striking buildings and placing fear in American hearts. Kidnappings and drug hits are turning Mexico into a very large threat for all of North America. I read just today that the Mexican Government is still nowhere near strong enough to actually secure their borders. Instead Government troops ill equiped and poorly paid/trained are trying to take on pretty much the entire drug world.
I hear of cops and troops being paid off or gutted in the streats. Only last year over 10 Canadian Tourists were attacked and or killed by Mexican thugs. According to America's most wanted their are dozens of kidnappings each year taking American citizens.
So with almost as many civilians dying in Mexico as say Afghanistan. With Mexico being right on the border with the United States. With a Government that has pretty much no fire power shouldn't Mexico get some back up from Canada, US , EU and other Nato countries. Infact Mexico is becoming a huge drug threat for the whole world.
I think NATO should deploy like 20,000-50,000 troops to Mexico to train the weak Mexican army and police. On the side NATO forces could bring in Interpol and hunt down the leaders of the drug cartels. With our nations pulling together we could put an end to the drug war. Give Mexico about 2 years to build up a proffessionally trained military/police anti drug unit and pull our troops out leaving Mexico in a much better position to fight for itself.
Doesn't anyone else think we should help Mexico re-establish peace and prosperity?
