Forums - General - What's so good about Nirvana?

Can anyone answer this question? Honestly I think they sound like crap.

They have a couple good songs I'll admit like Lithium, Smells like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are but nothing compared to legendary bands like the Beatles, Stones, Queen, etc. Yet whenever some people talk about the best bands ever they include Nirvana among them.

Now I know whenever I hear people talk about Nirvana they always say shit like "they invented/popularized the whole grunge rock era of the 90's" but who cares about that? Its a crappy genre that didn't really even make it out of the 90's, today its just rap, pop, and the occasional rock band.

Another thing they only ever had 3 studio albums, of which only 1 was a huge success, Nevermind. Their other 2 albums combined had 1/5 the sales of Nevermind.

So if you're a Nirvana fan please give valid reasons why you like them; or if you hate Nirvana and agree with me post your hate.

I don't get whats so good about them either.

Today its just rap, pop lol and you think you know music? Anyway for their time they were great...1989-1993 (I was listening to them a lot back then). At the time though I was mad about Misfits and Bad Religion

Btw why you hate them?

For me it is they have a unique sound and feel that other grunge bands do not emulate. I can't put my finger on it exactly but I like them a lot. I am not even really into music, but they are one of my favorite bands.

I don't actually hate them. Like I said there's a few of their songs I do like, I just don't get how they can possibly be considered one of the best ever. I mean they're considered the fucking 27th best ever by Rolling Stone magazine when they did their top 500 artists. They're higher on the list than the Who, The Clash, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson, David Bowie....and many other more deserving bands.

That's a fair response.

I guess if someone is into the whole grunge genre then there's no better band than Nirvana.

Grunge brought back rock music in a big, bad way. In the 80s, honest rock 'n' roll was mostly dead. Pearl Jam, STP, Nirvana, etc. brought it back to mainstream popularity. For that, those bands deserve credit. They also made some incredible music. All three bands had a knack for writing great lyrics, had a style all their own, and let's face it, their music was catchy and appealed to people on many levels.

Grunge may not have made it out of the 90s but the influence of the wildly popular 90s grunge bands still lives on in many popular rock bands today.

I forgot to mention that. One of the greatest services of grunge music.
