It doesn't contradict his statement if Sony has more shooters.  Sony has more of EVERYTHING.  They just make more and more varied games.

yep, that's exactly why they said this...Sony has EVERY genre available covered with exclusive, while the 360 has a couple RPGs and that's it.

Your reply seems factually incorrect...

What Sony RTS has shipped to compete with Halo Wars and the first Command & Conquer 3?  What PS3 simulation does Sony have to compete with Viva Pinata?  What SRPG shipped on PS3 competing against Spectral Force 3 and Operation Darkness?  How is Sony doing with Card/Board Strategy games like Culcept Saga, Catan, and Magic The Gathering?  I think both consoles cover a lot of genres.  But, for exclusive genres 360 is not weak...

Also,

360 RPGS not found on PS3 - Mass Effect 1, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Dark Messiah Might & Magic Elements, Divinity II, Fable II, Final Fantasy XI Online, Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant, Kingdom Under Fire Circle of Doom, Magnacarta 2, Operation Darkness, Phantasy Star Universe, Risen, and Spectral Force 3 (Total = 15)

360 Timed Exclusive RPGs before PS3 versions - Mass Effect 2, Eternal Sonata, Enchanted Arms, Star Ocean Last Hope, Tales of Vesperia, Oblivion IV Elder Scrolls, and Two Worlds (Total = 7)

PS3 RPGS not found on 360 - Demon Souls, Disgea 3, Last Rebellion, Untold Legends Dark Kingdom, Valkyria Chronicles, Yazuka 3, White Knight Chronicles, Cross Edge, 3D Dot Game Heros (Total = 9)

PS3 Timed Exclusives RPGS before 360 versions - Record of Agarest (Total = 1)

Looks to me like Sony is lacking in RPGs compared to 360... 15 to 9 on exclusives...  7 to 1 for timed exclusives...

i'm not even going to bother... the fact that you're counting timed exclusives as something good it's pretty weird...

lol doesn't change the fact that his message proves 360 has more RPG's at the moment...

and the 360 offers a variety of games for each genre denying that would be silly...

I'm sure if Sony owned the rights to Halo and Gears, Microsoft would say the same crap. Always some stupid crap from one of the big three. They're just mad that they are still in third place. I'm sure always trying to play  catch-up is getting old. It's starting to show.

nah, i'm not denying it, in fact, every console has support in a pretty good range of genres...what Sony actually does, it's good games in most of them...which are the best 360 games? IMO they are Gears, Halo, Forza, and Fable.

There really isn't any argument saying that the Xbox does not rely upon the sales of shooters to make their numbers.

Are they not generally the best selling titles on the platform?

I don't see what the big deal is here.

Shooters sell worse on the PS3.

Look at the top selling multi platform shooters on the PS3 compared to the Xbox and then look at the numbers for PS3 exclusive shooters. They don't sell anywhere near as well as the Xbox exclusive shooters.

They have to pick up the slack in other genres.

yes sony may have more fps, but they do not rely on those shooters to sell their consoles and make money as xbox does

Is it that MS relies on shooters or gives the people what they want? I think it's the latter. If anything Killzone and Resistance show that SOny has tried to grab a piece of the shooter pie, they just haven't been as successfull as MS has.

I agree. It shouldn't be considered even a dig, he said something obvious, the purpose was obviously to praise PS3's variety, the side-effect as much obvious, as you say, is that the presumed dig also shows that XB360 1st and 3rd parties are very good at catering for their user base tastes. From the numbers themselves it also appears that as time went by some 3rd parties came even to understand the audiences of both consoles even better than their manufacturers themselves, a thing that for example never happens on Nintendo consoles, particularly the home ones.

Microsoft's actually published more racers, RPGs, sandbox and strategy games than Sony so far this gen.  Sony's published more shooters, platformers, sims, sports, adventure and casual/party games though.

Wouldn't development be a better gauge here than publishing?

why would development be more important than publishing?  if you took out publishing than the only fps game that microsoft developed was halo 3.  After that bungie split.  Gears is made by epic.  Everything else Microsoft has made are racing, party, platforming, or sim games.  Which would defeat the whole argument of this thread.

I was under the impression that using publishing instead of developing made it seem like Microsoft made the same amount of games as Sony or more, but I could be mistaken.  I was more talking about overall games, sorry for the off topicness of the comment.  :(

No, Sony still publishes more games.  Actually, Sony only develops about half of their overall portfolio, Microsoft maybe a third.

This gen, for games developed (or co-developed) inhouse...
