Forums - Gaming - How bad will the fanboy motion control wars get?

This thread really got me thinking about Nintendo's next gen console. If the technology were to stay the same, will people be willing to upgrade to "Wii 2"?

While I do admit Nintendo changed the world of gaming with motion controls, what other innovations can they come up with after Kinect ... mind reading controls?

On-topic.

When future generations read about World War 3, they'll find that it all started with the motion control intertz warz.

Wow, first of all, way to completely misconstrue my post. Are you like, trying to pick a fight or something? I REALLY don't appreciate it when people put words in my mouth. Where exactly in my post did I say Nintendo lives and breaths innovation?

Also, in regards to the bold statements. I laughed when I read these, because this is EXACTLY what I'm trying to say! Nintendo will not remain in the red ocean (in this case of motion controls), because when they compete directly with bigger companies like Sony and MS, they usually DO falter, as N64 and Gamecube have shown. This is why Nintendo will try to again separate themselves form the competition with a new technology, because this is generally where they excel, as has been shown with the NES, DS, and Wii. They will not remain in the red ocean of motion controls for long.

I'm not sure what it is about my posts that seem to be firing you up so much...

"Nintendo will simply move on to new technologies like the Vitality Sensor, 3DS, and whatever new quirk the next Nintendo console has."

Thats exactly like saying Nintendo lives and breaths innovation :P.

Entering the motion control arena is like challenging Nntendo in the handheld arena or trying to create a better 2D or 3D platformer.

You're gonna lose and be lucky to still be in business at the end of it. It's Nintendo law.

You see nothing wrong with that? Nintendo isn't the only company that can push a medium to victory. If they were unstoppable, as you seem to be implying, they wouldn't have lost the last two gens in a row, and handily at that.

Nintendo had arguably the best 3D patformer in the 32-bit gen in their arsenal, and it did very little to combat the PS1.

Nobody has ever beaten Nintendo in the motion control arena, in the handheld arena or has made a better 2D or 3D platformer. Companies that challenged Nintendo in the handheld arena exited after their failures. The likes of Sega, Atari, Bandai, SNK, Nokia. And soon Sony, hehehe.

There's nothing wrong with his post.

Sure nobody as ever beat them, they had the only console with motion control up to a couple of days ago lol. About your 2D/3D platformer comment, its a matter of taste.

On topic, from reading the exagerate and biase opinion of some fans here, it doesnt seem like the "war" is going to be between PS3/360 fans.

Uh not really.. I am simply predicting that Nintendo's next console will have some new feature that differenciates itself from its competitors and draw in a mass market audience the other two fail to recognise. Because if it doesn't, Nintendo risks coming in last place again. It simply makes the most sense from a business perspective.

I imagine it being really bad for about 6-9months, then just dying down.

PS anyone who is old enough to remember, was there this much bitching about disk medium's, when Nintendo launched the 64DD, it could be seen as a similar situation

Just because Sony forgot about the Sixaxis, doesn't mean you have to.

Your right, should have said nobody ever tried beating them on motion control up to a couple days ago. Between, Sony didnt forgot about sixaxis, the technology is just very limited.

Oh god CGI, you'll never win this one, look who you're against

"sony got lucky" rubbish, it takes more than luck to have 2 consoles sell over 100 million units, something Nintendo has yet to achieve.

Ya'll like to believe Nintendo was never out of the game.

Booming economy and being the first consolek to sell worldwide (the NES/SNES were never big in Europe and neither was Sega in Japan) which is a result of having more assets and being able to pool more of them. Not to mention Nintendo didn't release a 2D Mario, 3rd parties hated both Sega and Nintendo and Sony launched first. Only the very last one was controllable, but it can not be duplicated to how it helped them before.

It's very easy to say Sony got lucky. It's also a good reason that Sony, once dominate before, can hardly keep up.

Here is a video on it.
