Forums - Nintendo - Why is there no promotion for New Carnival Games?

How many of you realized that a sequel to a game that sold 3.5 million + copies is getting a sequel in a few days? New Carnival Games comes out on the 21st in the Americas and the only trailer I can find is from E3. I have not seen any TV commericals or magazine advertisements or anything. When was the last time a sequel to such a big game received zero (or close to it) advertisement? With a reasonable marketing campain this should have been the first release of the consistent stream of potential hit Wii games leading up to the holidays. Now, instead I think the game may get the record of biggest decline in a franchise from one title to the next.

What type of opening week sales do you expect now? Do you think word of mouth can help it too strong legs like the first title or is the game going to be a complete bomb?

I'm probably one of the few people on this site that actually enjoyed the first game, and I am looking forward to this one with the inclusion of motionplus support (I think this is the first motionplus supported minigame collection right?).

Why do you think the publisher decided not to advertise this one?

Because the first one sold on word of mouth not advertising.

Also sequels typically do lousy on Wii.   Most people are content with one version of the game.

Personally even though I didn't care for CG I'll rent NCG at least to try out the WM in it, but I don't think that'll really move any copies.   I don't think Wii's casual base actually care if it's 1:1 or not (don't tell Sony...).

Also, when CG launched it was the FIRST mini-game collection aside from Wii Sports/Wii Play and it was decent.  Since then there's been... lord knows... hundreds?... of craptacular mini-games, some even cloning CG.   The market for this type of game on Wii is WAY over-saturated.

There's hope for it though.  IF it's really good, word of mouth will once again spread and sell millions of copies.

Actually, I did see an ad--on TV, no less.  It's probably on youtube by now.  It's been a few days.

The price will advertise itself.

I also saw an advert in the latest issue of Nintendo Power.

This one will break the 1M mark ... but probably not much more.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Yeah.  Just watch a lot of disney channel or nick (like my kid)and yo'll stumble across it.

I knew, but that's because I'm a weirdo who maintains a game database.

I suspect Take 2 are hoping that the "new" prefix will allow the game to ride on the success of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, or something.

The story lacked in the original, people don't care what happens next.

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Well, CG2 is going to use the Wii Motion Plus.  This is either going to make it stand out from other games as one of the few WM games or it's going to be one of the reasons that New Carnival Games doesn't sell--because it can't be fully enjoyed by everyone.

Played it at E3.  I sure hope they fix the problems it had.  I remember winning a round of a game (some odd 7-11 game) but my player showed the loser animation while the loser showed the winning animation.

Controls were not very tight either.  Just felt like bad programming moe than anything.
