Forums - Microsoft - Steel Battalion Heavy Armor is coming to Kinect

I see absolutely no point it making this game complicated to please the handfull of people who purchased it first time round. What makes a lot more sense is to enable more people to enjoy and play in the world (read pay for a game and make a profit). I see no reason why motion control and voice cannot take a large part of the complication away from this game.

Of course if you did buy Kinect you also actually do need an Xbox and guess what they already come with controllers so it is not massively far fetched if they could not pull this off with Motion and voice alone they could not supplement with a controller.

I was a fan of the Mechwarrior series myself and am looking foward to that game and I can certainly see how that could be used with Kinect but the news on that games front has gone awfully quiet.

The console interations of the Mechassault/warrior franchise are nothing like Steel Battalion. Hell, not even the PC iterations were. Those games are arcade shooters with sim elements. Steel Battalion is a sim, straight up. It's like if they announced they were bringing back Microsoft Flight Simulator and gave you Ace Combat.

This doesn't tell me what I need to know most, which is how it controls

I can tell you now, you won't be using that gigantic controller of yours unfortunately.

Wait.

There's no controller?

YOU DON'T USE A CONTROLLER AT ALL? Okay even that would be fine, but with confirmation of this it leads me to believe that Steel Battalion will be simplified into something like... like Mechassault.

Hold on I need to find an appropriate .gif

Okay found one

I think your avatar would have done well enough. Take the trailer it's from, replace spears with Kinects and imagine that Steel Battalion will power through and beat Capcom, a giant Buddha from space and other stuff.

My avatar implies that I could do anything besides rage impotently at the night.

But what if it's a virtual display like Minority Report?

You could use either hand as a joystick and you have 8 distinct areas of the screens that could have context sensitive buttons that could have a digital display that changes as the function of the spot changes

It's no 40 buttons given to you all at once but that's still alot right?

You can always go for the f-bomb record if you're bored.

I just really really hope they can make this a good game, even if it isn't in the spirit of the original... *sigh*

So now the Xbox 360 will be getting two mech games. Interesting stuff!

Wait...what's the other one?

Mech Warrior (reboot)

Tease.

Good find, good call.

OT: How ironic that the game with one of the biggest controllers ever gets a sequel which doesn't require a controller.

wait say what... that exists? hooray! Mech Warrior 2 is one of my favorite games. :D

OT: I always wanted to play steel batallion... but it seemed like a big investment for a game I may or maynot like D:.

Yeah Mech 2 is one of my all time favourites as well. I remember all the customisation and random mechs I created. It was awesome.

As for the investment well, you just have to see if you can find some other reasons to buy the interface aside from that one game. That'd split the cost at least. If you like multiplayer a killer application is replacing a wireless/wired mic. That alone for me is pretty cool because I HATE headsets.

Tease.

I hate this with a passion that burns with the heat of a thousand suns. Fuck this. This is bullshit. I have been begging for a new Steel Battalion game forever and now I get it without a fucking controller.  This is the stupdest thing ever. I've never been so angry at anything Kinect has done. Oh and it's going to be really fucking fun to have to stand up to play Steel Battalion.
