Forums - General - IGN: Top 25 Sci-Fi Movies

Actually, on a more serious note, the original Godzilla (particularly Gojira, the original Japanese version without Raymond Burr) is one of the best horror/sci-fi movies of all time, and an excellent meditation on both nuclear power and the Japanese psyche in the immediate wake of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

It belongs on any list of great sci-fi films, and when it's not on one I assume that it's because people forget about it.

I didn't know "The Day The Earth Stood Still" was regarded so highly, good movie though.

They got #1 and #2 right. I don't really think A Clockwork Orange belongs on the list and if I were to cave and allow it, it's better then every other film on this list so it's either #1 or not on it, and I while I liked both Moon and District 9 a lot, there are better Sci-Fi films.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. It's definately better than most of the movies in the top 10 though (WTF is The Road Warrior doing that high???).

WALL-E and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind should've been included also.

Great film.

Yes, but only because Kate Winslet is hot

The list seems alright, not a huge amoun stand out as being definately undeserving.  I might have gone for some more contemparary titles like Minority Report, Artificial Intelligence and i-Robot but it depends on the metric the author used.  Don't take too much from my opinion though as I quite liked the Cube movies.

return of the jedi has always been my favorite but whatever...

To me that movie was severely damaged by the entire battle of Endor.

Ewoks were the original trilogies Jar Jar.

well I saw it in the 80ies when I was under 10 so.... not much trouble about the ewoks =) they were cute and fuzzly

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

The ewoks were awful but they weren't even on the same planet of bad as Jar Jar

The top 10 of the list is fairly similar to my top 10 most overrated films of all time.

BladeRunner is the best example of a film created by a pretentious art student. There are few films in existence where I actually cared less about the characters or the story.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I don't think Cleopatra can be considered a genre movie. It's a hystorical epic about Cleopatra. It's terribly stupid to compare it to 300 which is a Action movie set in a hystorical setting.

Oh lol =)

What? I never said Cleopatra is a good movie. But it's definately not a "genre movie" (though I personally don't associate quality with genre).
