Forums - General - Blu-Ray 3D Exclusivity May Kill Format

Wow, what HDTV failed to do to Blu-Ray, the Blu-Ray consortum does to itself.  Brilliant!

That makes more sense.

For the timed exclusivity thing, does that mean I couldn't buy a certain movie for a certain amount of time unless I bought a TV though?  If so, that's still pretty stupid and short-sighted.  If not and I can still buy the movie off the shelf, raising any kind of stink about this couldn't make less sense.

the glaring issue that the author chooses to ignore is that you can get these movies online without the timed exclusivity.

Where?  I'm not being facetious, I just haven't seen them available anywhere like that.  I have friends that have the equipment and are frustrated by not being able to buy these movies so any links would help (don't say Amazon because they're not there).  Thanks!

OOOhhh, I see now.

Yes, the bluray 3d movies only has cloudy, and two more coming out soon (one tomorrow and one in november).

That's just a lack of selection though. There are no other bluray 3d movies out except those ones....which is even worse considering that the author of the article says that there are more but on different tvs.

Well there is Monsters Vs. Aliens, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Coraline, but those are exclusive deals for now.  Come the end of the year, it looks like there will be less than 10 total, but with most of those tied up in exclusivity deals.

To be honest, this may be good for the studios and equipment manufacturers, but its pretty lousy for consumers.  Even cable and satellite providers have exclusivity deals for 3D content.

The Blu Ray 3D of MvA is not for sail on Amazon, but you know just about ANYTHING can be sold 2nd hand on ebay.  Do Coraline and Ice Age have retail dates, though, like Christmas Carol and Monster House do?

.... It sounds so stupid it simply can't be true. Something's wrong with this article for certain. There has to be some sort of misunderstanding.

I don't believe so.

But they will eventually.

This is insane, what's gotten into these companies? >_>

If all Blu Ray players could play all different formats of movies then they would all lose their individuality. This exclusivity is a GOOD thing IMO its the same as games, the multiplatform / one format thing is killing the industry.

Tease.

it does sound silly, but its a way of TV makers to get you to buy their TV,

how many people are going to be buying 3dtv's in the next 6 months, its a start up process

it is funny though exclusive wars in the TV business who would of thunk it

get your helmets on
