Cloud1161:  Q4 calendar yes but not for the company's financials.  As scat and co. said M$ is dealing now with production estimates for the quarter that ends in March.  It's the only thing that makes sense out of this.

A - Calm down MSDF

B - I heard that clearing old inventory has been one reason for the spike in sales (but i dk for sure so don't bit my head off).

C - The WHOLE industry is slowing down, its not just affecting MS, but also manufacturers of DS and Wii parts too.

D - Maybe this gen. really is on the way out, It has been going on for 6 years after all. (3DS indicates the next gen is already here, according to many)

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

They mean rapid deterioration of consumer demand vs. what they originally forecasted.  They're not saying that 360 sales are falling, or are going fall.  They're saying they expected them to be higher than they are.

Agree. XB360S start was huge, considering the slow season, it's understandable that it made correct predictions more difficult.
