There is boxing in Kinect Sports and I've seen gameplay of it work quite well. Recognizes blocks, uppercuts, jabs, hooks, etc in normal punch speed. Unless the players are professional boxers I don't think its noticeable. Are you scowering the internet for negative articles about Kinect? I don't see how you could just come across that article online by accident.

well I did come across that article online by accident =P

defensive much

Yeah since I notice you post negative articles about Kinect and create threads bashing anything 360 on an hourly basis.

Off Topic: I'm trading in KZ2 which I just bought 3 weeks ago in for Reach. The game is garbage. Secondly my new 160 GB PS3 has frozen 3 times in the past 3 weeks since I bought it and its well ventilated. Thirdly my 360s hasn't had one single problem since I bought it in June. Just wanted to throw out some info to against the myth that the PS3 is so much better than the 360, because it isn't.

Exactly...

kinect isn't 1:1 though =/ And as far I know boxing is mostly an upper body sport..

lol if you have no clue about boxing why do you talk about it? moving is fking important in boxing and i would love to see you fighting anywhere against another guy without using your feet (for movement not for kicking haha)

the right step at the right moment and you can give your opponent a punsh he wont survive :) or he will punsh in the air without hitting you or your block what is very bad for his power. i could give you thousand examples...

I hate to get off topic (although the actual topic sucks so I don't feel too bad - "Natal isn't fast enough to do something like boxing" "uh, boxing on natal already exists")

But boxing has got to be one of the most upper body related martial arts there are?

Judo is all about your stance, same with sumo wrestling.

The martial arts I've done (Bukido and Tae kwon do) were very much about lower body work too, much more so than the boxing I've seen, which is admittedly not a huge amount.

Surely,by comparison to other martial arts, Boxing is mostly to do with the upper body?

Say what? :D You don't know anything about boxing.

I love when people talk out of their asses. The footwork is essential on boxing. Just watch boxing some day. Of course there is a lot of upper body work too but upper body work is not just arm punches. It is bopping, weaving, shoulder rolling etc. Those are things that kinect can track and move/wm can't.

And what is the point to compare it to other martial arts? It does not in any way validate the argument that boxing is "mostly upper body sport".

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  I thought I'd never see that thread again!!

On topic:  I suspect that in a years time, the smoke from the Kinect/Move battle will be clear and one of the two will be an overwhelming success while the other will be an interesting experiment (aka huge failure).  Let's come back in 365 days and see how it went.

30Hz sampling rate should be more than enough for nursing home boxing! So stop trolling Kinect, otherwise MDF will counter-strike within less than 5 minutes reaction time! (Just checked the first furious answer timestamp).

In a bid to fight obesity, a number of researchers have been tasked with making a 'boxing' game that helps folks shed those very excess pounds. Various things had been considered although the team opted for a cross between the Wii and Move. The project leader denoted that the team had considered alternative console based motion caputre systems with cameras (Kinect) although they were 'too slow' to capture high speed movements of participants. The researcher noted that they only work at 30fps which does not capture the full speed motion of a punch.

Oh boy, here we go again. streeeeeeeeeeeetch.

Hopefully this wil be the last post LeoJ will make in the MS forums for at least a while.  Many of us refuse to post anymore because we don't want to deal with the constant lurking fanboy attacks.

On topic:  Kinect seems to handle motion capturing pretty well in fitness games from all of the live demos I have seen recently, and it looks like boxing and fighting games will do well on Kinect.  Only another month before we will know what it can and can't do.

Weird, I seem to remember certain articles like this one:

Enjoy that little tidbit. Straight from Microsoft and Harmonix.

And here are some more good times:

This one is talking about how Kinect is too advanced to copy. Leoj, you're getting so sloppy at these things. You have to actually get information before you try to make an argument.

The 1:1 ness of Kinect is completely determined by developers.
