Forums - Microsoft - Halo 3 three years later

I'm replaying the Halo 3 campaign in anticipation of Reach partly because I don't remember parts of it. I'll be posting thoughts in this thread to have it fresh in my mind when comparing it with Reach's campaign. I'll be trying to play through a mission a day if possible, and if I get through this, I'll go through ODST's campaign again. If anyone else wants to relive Halo 3 with me and share their thoughts on the campaign about 3 years after the game's launch, feel free to do so here!

We're only a week and a half away now, so let's get back in that Halo mood! Who's with me?!?

I played it with two friends yesterday. So much fun.

I WOULD be playing it right now to get ready for Reach but my internet is crappy and I can't call AT&T on weekends.

I literally see Halo everyday in my house due to my kids playing it. They are usually playing some sort of custom game that I could give two shits about but just watching them makes me want to play all the time. This wait for Reach has been a long one indeed and yet it doesn't seem like the beta was so long ago.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

Sure, I'm in. I love playing Halo 3's campaign on Legendary. I won't play the mission Cortana again, though.

Problems scrambling your way out at the end? That is one of the worst ones.^

Cortana was just annoying (the mission, I mean). It wasn't that it was hard in unique, strategizing ways, it was just a horde of bad guys EVERYWHERE. A never-ending horde of enemies that took no cover and merely rushed at you. The only way to get through was with a shotgun, beamsword, and melee attacks with sharp weapons (which was way overpowered but I loved it).

I've beaten the game countless times on Legendary with friends, and I have a blast every time. I might do it again before Reach comes out. =)

Haha I can't stand playing any of the past Halo campaigns (sans ODST) because I have literally played Halo 1-3's campaign that much.  I've probably  played the Halo 3 campaign about 30-40 times.

But knowing how good the Halo Reach campaign is gonna be I will probably play it at least 50 times through.

I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!

I played through the first mission, Arrival, today. One thing I didn't realize about this level is how many freaking jackal snipers there are. There are two parts in this mission which are essentially sniping galleries, where if you don't keep moving or stay well hidden, you'll die relatively quickly. Interestingly enough, I ended up killing the hammer brute with a seemingly "it seemed like a good idea at the time" melee right to the face. That felt great! There's not much to comment on this level in terms of the story though. You crash land on earth, split up from Johnson and end up having to rescue him as he gets caught by the Covenent. Finally, you arrive at the UNSC outpost at the end. It's definitely not as memorable as the Pillar of Autumn on Halo 1, but still a nice start to the campaign nonetheless.
