Forums - Gaming - The different taste of the HD gamer (console specific)

It's a rainy night in Melbourne, the winds are a blowin and my nose is a snowin (cold). The diversity goes on and on. JRPGs for the PS3 gamers and Strategy games for the 360 gamers. Platformers for PS3 and SHMUPS for the 360. If you want to add any other genre comparisons between the two, go ahead. So why do you think the two platforms have such diverse audiences?

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I find that the 360 crowd purchase more or less the same games whilst the PS3 crowd is more diverse.

PS3 gamers seem to like games that are different and kinda weird. I wouldn't call them more diverse compare to 360 gamers, but they are definitely more open to new things.

no they really are. But you gotta consider this

Would the average french person like the same games the average American would like? I really doubt it. And i think thats the reason for such sales.

The is no mistaking the PS3 is more diverse when you consider this. I will say this the average american gamer is going to like the same kinda games as the next average american gamer. Which may be the reason why the 360 sells so well in one genre then an other.

The 360 is more of an American console while the PS3 is a WW console. And the world as a whole is more diverse then America

I think the Racing category is pretty even. Shift has low numbers because it came out around the same time as Forza 3. Otherwise the other multiplatform racers and exclusives sold about equal when combined. Obviously that'll change with GT5 :P.

I think the difference spawns from what's available on the consoles. The 360 has more WRPG's available. Therefore people who enjoy WRPG's are likely to grow their collection on that platform.

The PS3 has most of the JRPG's the 360 has with extra content as well as a few exclusive ones. In addition to the Playstation brand is pretty much known for it's JRPG collections. Therefore collectors of JRPGs would naturally migrate to the PS3 to continue their collections spanning back to the PS1 and 2 days.

Shooters are pretty even actually as they seem to be the top selling genre on either platform.

There are a couple of reasons for the difference in the fighter genre. First, the PS3 is known to have a more fighter friendly controller. Second, the games listed there are either new to the Xbox install base or are developed and styled towards an audience where the PS3 install base is much larger (ie. BlazBlue and Japan).

Hack'n'Slash is a combination of all the above reasons. The history of quality hack'n'slashers available on the Playstation brand, the intended audiences of the games released and the install bases of the consoles in those regions, exclusives of the same genre on the given platforms (360 doesn't really have any since NG isn't exclusive anymore), etc.

360 has 4-5 million more consoles out though

As a Ps3 owner I hate first person shooters and WRPGS .

As a 360 owner I love shooters and WRPGs.

Generalizations are cool when your bored, but each console has gamers of all kinds.
