Calling Other M a flop is pretty premature, at this point. Come back in nine months.

a lot of games this year are falling well short of the hype; whether it be critically, commercially or both

Here's my list of games that have disappointed in one way or another

I apologize; I meannt to type "sales flop" or perhaps "financial flop".

I do not think Other M is a critical flop. Below expectations, sure, but there's a difference between being below expectations and being a critical flop.

This!

Get FFXIII and Other M outta there!

And why is Resonance of Fate there, alan Wake, and Bioshock 2?

If they did disappointing sales so did Mass Effect 2, put it in there too please.

I agree for the most part.

I expected bigger numbers for ModNation Racers and of course Alan Wake. Crackdown 2 could have done better as well, but reviews killed it. I don't know why though. Pretty much everybody I talk to enjoys Crackdown 2, just because it is fun. But that is something reviewers don't review these days: Fun.

I thought Bioshock 2 would be quite huge, too.

On the other hand there were quite a few games that sold well and surprised me. MW2 sold big numbers in 2010, RDR is a great hit and a possible GOTY contender. I didn't see that one coming. Heavy Rain sold well, too. Mass Effect2 and Splinter Cell Conviction did in line with my expectations.

But by the look of things the holiday season will be quite big. Halo Reach will sell like crazy, preorders for Fable III in the US are awesome and I don't see GT5 flop badly either.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Mass Effect 2 is tracking on level with or better than its predecessor, darth.

Here is an excerpt from Gamespot's review of the original Mafia released in 2002:

"The most serious complaint that can be made about Mafia is that the city isn't as tightly integrated into the missions as it is in Grand Theft Auto III. Often, driving across the city is more of a mood-enhancing interactive cutscene than a gameplay element that poses an actual challenge. This is fine in the beginning, but by the time you've reached the halfway point, you may find yourself wishing that you could simply fast-forward through these parts. You're often free to deviate from the quickest path to your destination and go exploring, but unlike in Grand Theft Auto III, there's little reason to do so."

Fast forward to 2010 for GameSpot's review of Mafia 2:

"It's with this explorable world that Mafia II commits its most egregious crime, however: Empire City goes largely underutilized. As with almost any open-world game, you can make your own fun (get the cops on your tail and then engage in a shoot-out) and pursue a few side activities (collect Playboy magazines and view the centerfolds in all their naked glory). Otherwise, you simply move from one story mission to the next without following any tangents along the way. There are no side missions to take. You can sell vehicles, but there isn't much to do with the funds you earn. You can buy new clothing from the freaky-looking, unblinking shopkeeper, but there aren't a lot of outfits to pick up. You can buy guns, but because your enemies drop ammo and a healthy variety of weaponry, there's no reason to ever visit the weapon shop. You can pick up one of the pay phones marked on your minimap, but unless the mission demands it, there is never anyone to call. This is essentially a linear, story-focused game that happens to take place in a big, beautiful city that incessantly teases you with potential never brought to fruition."

Looks like not much has changed except the expectations for sand-box games to have at least 10 hours of side missions and challenges. Mafia 2 does not, henceforth the lower review.

I was tempted to pick up Mafia 2 because of my fond experience with Mafia, but I decided to replay Assassin's Creed 2 after beating it in December 2009. Up next is a hard playthrough of Starcraft 2, then a full evil playthrough of Fallout 3 to get all the achievments.

Hopefully when I am done, October will be around and Fable 3 or Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will be out.

The chart graphing tools are gone

they painted strikingly different picture.

But then Resonance Of Fate is selling as good as any random new IP JRPG did last gen.

If ROF is there, why isn't Star Ocean IV PS3 version there?

If Resonance Of Fate is there why isn't NIER there?

If Resonance Of Fate is there why isn't FF Crystal Chronicles Wii there? (maybe this was last year)

Who expected big things from Resonance Of Fate pray tell...

At 30 weeks, Mass Effect had sold 1.73 million copies.

At 30 weeks, Mass Effect 2 has sold 1.93 million copies.

ME2 is doing fine.

Weird, it was falling behind before VGC 3.0 came and then Bioware said they shipped 1.6 Million PC/360.

Still thats lower than Oblivion/Fallout

Yet Resonance Of Fate is being called a flop because it sold less than what FFXIII and Dragon Quest.

I love it how PSP games have flopped even before their release.

If Metal Gear Solid can't sell on the PSP what hope does Valkyria Chronicles have? Ghost of Sparta is the only game I'd put money on passing 500k this year.

I agree that there is high possibility that it will flop but it's still kind of silly to put game on flop list before its release. Who knows if it could catch S-E fanbase on PSP and actually sell decently or it could develop some legs like some PSP games do.

I can't decide which is the bigger flop, Alan Wake, Crackdown 2 or Bioshock 2. Out of the three, I have only played Bioshock 2, but my friends were huge fans of Crackdown.

I have to agree Bioshock 2 would have been huge. If they did a slight update on the graphics and threw in some more plot twists, then it would have been awesome. Instead it feels like Bioshock as a Big Daddy and without Andrew Ryan as the nemesis. A fairly safe game, but ho hum for any who played the original.

Alan Wake and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (to a lesser extent) ran into the tsunami that is Red Dead Redemption. No one was predicting Red Dead to have shipped close to 7 million copies before the Christmas season.

I don't know what to say about Crackdown 2 because I have not played a Crackdown game. From what I read and hear, Crackdown 2 is a remake of the original worse than the original. However, I have bought lower reviewed games like Condemned 2 in the past and have thought what in the hell were the reviewers thinking? I would most likely think the same with Crackdown 2 as it appears to be a solid game with a solid premise, but no story which I can dig.
