I don't like these news. It's selling too much.

it has to.. If it doesn't sell 10 million plus shio will spam the forums forever with hypothetical sales numbers.. heck it has to sell 20 million to stop him from doing that... http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=113950&page=1

Now it's certain to sell 20 millions. Starcraft 2 is selling WAY faster than Starcraft 1.

Starcraft 2 sold 3 millions in it's first month.

Starcraft sold 1.5 million in it's first 8 months.

This is a sequel to very popular game, it is bound to be a LOT more frontloaded. I wouldn't be suprised if Starcraft 2 would have sold more in 1 month than Starcraft in 1 year and still lose in total sales.

Let's take example from movie sequels. It isn't rare that sequel grosses more in 1 week that first movie in 1 month and sequel still has a lot lower total gross.

I don't get this. Blizzard says 3 million in one month worldwide. Why shouldn't they include digital distribution?

Yeah why shouldn't they? Of course they did. Who said otherwise?

How the hell can you compare the movie industry with PC Gaming industry?! The truth is, PC games sell for years, and Starcraft 2 will sell for at least a decade.

Whether or not it's frontloaded, Starcraft 2 will easily sell more than it's antecessor because the PC Gaming industry is much bigger than in 1998, and will allow for such sales.

Pro gaming is also bigger than ever, and Battle.Net Pro Gaming will make an astonishing combination.

All signs point to Starcraft 2 crushing Starcraft 1.

The game better get a kickass pro-scene or I will be dissapoint.

Err, it already has, just a week ago there was a big tourney in Germany, with a 15,000$ prize pool (and 5,000 for first place) called Interl Extreme Masters (IEM), it was during Gamescom.

Also, like two days ago there was a MLG SC2 tourney in North Carolina, and the winner took 2500$.

Not to mention the international SC2 competitions in South Korea, sponsored by Blizzard and hosted be Gomnet (or something like that!) - monthly tournemants with a first prize of 85,000$ (although, you must qualify for the tourney physically in Korea)

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

make an educated guess.

And yeah Starcraft 2 will sell for years... for 5 bucks. Don't make it look like PC games make a profit for years. They just don't unless it is a MMO. I bought Warcraft III plus add ons this way.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I don't see anybody in this thread state that Blizzard is not counting digital sales.

Anyway, I actually expected bigger numbers. That is like Halo Reach first day sold through customers. I expected something like 5-6 million in one month easily.I mean it is Blizzard we are talking about. THE PC developer.

Aye, but I'd be pretty sure in a few years' time that SC3 will not only still be selling well, but also selling a lot more than Halo Reach does per month. The subsequent releases of the other two parts of the trilogy will also give a nice sales boost to Wings of Liberty as well. I highly doubt it'll end up with 20 million sales, but combined sales across the three titles should easily reach 20-30 million.

Stop talking like you know it.

ALL Blizzard games drop in price slower than the average PC game. Starcraft Battlechest is still $15, after 12 years.

Diablo 2 Battlechest is also like $20.

Warcraft 3 should also be around $10 to $20.

PC games make profit for years because they're sold for years. Why would they sell if they didn't make money with it?! That's just common sense.

The developer won't see much from this though. 15€ pays the customer, the retailer wants some of that money, the wholesale trader wants some of that money, the logistics behind this wants some of that money, the publisher wants some of that money and the developer wants some of that money. So the developer makes probably 1-3€ or 5€ max.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

But they're still making money, right?
