Online is a free service buddy, always has been. As a PC gamer its just further proof of how horrible MS is for gaming as a whole. And I'm angry about your statement. Its like saying that someone shoving half his dick up your ass is being generous for not putting the whole thing in.

MS is horrible for gaming? I don't see it affecting PS3 online gaming, or PC? It must just be horrible for X360 owners, but the majority are fine with this??? You're looking for weak excuses.

MS ushered in the DLC age and made it acceptable to charge customers for things that used to be provided for free.

I'm thinking they did this despite the new increase in members.

There are going to be a lot of people who are going to expect kinect to do live chat etc, and will have to buy a membership to use it.

You let me know when you find a free service on PC that integrates all your games both offline and online with a single profile, integrates cross game chat, party chat up to 8 people, includes matchmaking services for fair and balanced gaming experiences, also offers services like full game downloads, demos, videos, netflix, facebook, last.fm, ESPN, achievements, etc.

Oh and then good luck enjoying that experience from your couch or anywhere you take a flash drive without having to lug around your entire PC (all there needs to be is a 360 and a game, no need to necessarily bring your own personal equipment like on PC).

MS took online to a whole new level.  A level that Sony and Valve are beginning to grasp with PSN Plus and Steam, but those services are still a far ways off from being the level of XBL.

Not that I pay for XBL Gold service anyway I always pick buying a new game over paying for Gold, but now it costs the same as a new game : inflation might be the reason but online services started out as free on PC with many of the features in the 90s that PS3, Wii, and 360 are just now getting.  

Dunno why people are fighting so hard to justify their buying of the service, if you want to pay for it that's your prerogative, but it doesn't make much sense from many standpoints, peer to peer is cheaper than running servers, the servers there also work for people with silver for free, paying doesn't take away the ads from the dashboard, plus there are some additional features you're technically paying to have on 360 (Netflix, Facebook, etc) on the other consoles and even have things like a web browser which is a nifty feature when you want to watch you tube/flash videos on your TV, the advantages of Gold boils down to wanting cross game chat and parties, with fewer exclusives I want on my 360 I have little reason to justify my own personal purchase of Gold and even less so with the price going up.

yeah but what do I know? Apparently I'm an alt account who posts negative stuff about MS (even if it's news) who will be proven to be so and will be perm banned cuz that's how some almighty mods see it :P sadly I'm one of the few who tried to look at this in a relatively positive way

Free is not always better, as a linux and windows user I know this for a fact.

In this case Free is better, since Steam completely crushes Xbox Live in every way that counts.
