Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft to increase price of Xbox Live Gold

For people who say that xbox live is p2p,. if that is true then why can't we play online when xbox live is down? Xbox live is not p2p, when it comes to console gaming there is no such thing as p2p, its server-client.

Because LIVE is just a central hub, once all the players are connected the actual game is P2P. Live is basically just a chat room with matchmaking, without the actual chatting.

I just find it funny that people who don't even use Live comment about it. Or have a 360 for that matter.  This forum sure has a lot of that.

I have a 360, I used the free Live trial when I got my 360. I played Gears 2 online, realised that all the fapping that comes from the over excited Live members was bullshit and never paid for the service after the trial finished. Live isn't as good as people are making it out to be, I'd argue that the community is stronger because it's been around longer and most of the hardcore players have adapted to the service, but otherwise it isn't that good.

People who don't have 360's can also comment and be upset about the price jump, because when the next gen comes, the other manufacturers will follow the easy money. If I have to pay to play online on my PS3 in the future, I'd blame Microsoft for being a corporate asshole. We cool?

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

For a minute there I was expecting a nice article and everything, then I realized that it's a fucking blog. Not only is it a blog but the guy who wrote it flat out states "I'm still learning about networking so keep that in mind."

I am sorry, but what you are refering to is dedicated servers and that is not how LIVE works at all. There are some games where dedicated servers are used, but I hear they cost a crapton of money to the developers. Otherwise you are just playing a game off someone else's system.

I've had a 360 since the summer of 2007. I haven't been a Gold subscriber since 2007. I was already playing online through PSN and saw no value in paying for the ability to do the same on the 360.

As a result, I don't buy 360 games that I want to play online. I have no interest in using all the added services MS has accumulated over the years to justify marketing XBL as a premium service or the upcoming rate hike. Just about all of them are accessible through a regular network connection on any computer.

If you don't use the 360 as your primary gaming platform (or go weeks without turning the 360 on), it's a lot harder to tout the "value" of XBL Gold.

It was already a bad idea from the start, now it's even worse.

Goes to show that the rich get richer and the poor (that's me lol) get poorer.  I won't take inflation as a reasonable excuse for the price hike.  I don't get a pay increase cause I'm maxed out where I work so XBL is out of my price range now.  However, I still have PSN for my COD multiplayer fix.

Inflation is more than a reasonable excuse, what you expected it to stay the same price for another 10 years? how about 15? at which point it woul dbe like them charging $10 a year when they first launched.

I understand why they would use inflation as a reason for the price hike.  However, I don't use the extra services that XBL provide.  I play games such as Call of Duty and etc for multiplayer.  Why do I need to pay $60 a year for this when the PS3 and Wii offer this feature for free, for now?  Don't get me wrong I like XBL but raising the price doesn't make me happy, especially when I'm trying to lower my expenses.

After I was attacked here some hours ago, I'm also in the GameFAQs forums and well, I want to share this:

If you don't want to click, by Shovel_Break:

EA and THQ: "We're going to charge you to access the online if you buy a used copy of our games, one time fee of $10 k? Sorry, but we feel we should be getting at least some money from all the copies of the games we publish"

Consumers: HOW DARE YOU!? Let's boycott these crooks, I can't even believe they're doing this. No money for you!! RAAAAAAAAGGGGGEEE!!!

But then....

Microsoft: Hey, we're increasing the price of Live by 20%, you'll be paying an extra $10 a year now. Don't ask why either.

Consumer: Okie dokie! Whatever you say master !!!! :D. It's just 10 dollars extra, I'd give you more if you wanted ;D YAAAAAAYY!!

Ironic, isn't?

Sorry for bad English.
