Forums - Gaming - Which 3rd Party Games will Microsoft Buy for 2011?

Icyedge said:

They cannot purchase as much exclusive third party games as they did in the early years. Back then, the PS3 wasnt that important so it was surely a lot cheaper than today to sign an exclusive contract. I dont have hard numbers but its an easy concept to understand. The way to go is either get first party studios or finance smaller third party games development. Since they dont seem to be doing any of this, they will at least get exclusives because of Kinect.

Thats just the problem. Microsoft finally whips out the in house companies and they are all working on Kinect games. Thats a huge issue.

You guys amaze me, most of you are acting like Kinect is the "Arrow" of death.  And in fact its not, if Kinect is as big of a success as Microsoft obviously thinks it will be it will be a great thing for Core gamers.  How so you may ask?  Well if Kinect starts selling 360 consoles like crazy that means that the 360's market share will rise dramatically.  And in the long term it will give gaming studios an even larger reason to bring games to the 360.  Even the new casuals that Kinect will bring in buy software and the more 360's out there the more software that can be sold.

Long long long ago even I was a casual gamer.  And if you think about it, so were you.....

First off, I think it's pretty sad that this is even a topic. With that being said, your given examples seems just way, way, WAY... stupid?:

BioShock: Infinite? First of, BIoShock went multiplatform a long time ago and the game's scheduled for 2012 not 2011. Why would they take the franchise several steps backwards once again?

GTAV? Yeeeeaaaah, no comment... Well, actually: Why would Rockstar want to take many steps backwards just to cater to MS and their dollars? I think they will earn more AND make a MUCH better product if they have the PS3 (exclusive) in mind when making the game. Didn't they already complain about 360's limitations while working on GTAIV? Expect GTAV to be a PS3 exclusive if anything..

Splinter Cell? I thought since SC was born on the XBox, and since they used this argument for keeping SC:C exclusive, this was a series that doesn't need to be moneyhatted. I might be wrong though.

Prototype 2? Be my guest...

I don't think MS will be able to buy exclusive rights to any noteworthy 3rd party game ever again. They might get some Kinect games and that's it. More and more developers start enjoying developing for the PS3, and PS3 consumers have become too many to ignore. Perhaps MS should start thinking about making their own games if they want exclusives from now on. It would be a nice change.

Ubisoft is already entertaining the thought of making Splinter Cell: Conviction a multiplat. Everyone is running to Sony now. This is crazy lol.

More games will come to the 360 if Kinect succeeds; Casual games and their ilk. Microsoft will do what Nintendo used to do and focus on the casuals for a huge amount of the time. Most casuals will not go hardcore and stick...but some will. This is why the hardcore will remain a minority, but a vocal minority which companies cannot ignore.

I highly doubt Rockstar will give MS another chance to payout for a timed exclusive or "exclusive rights" to anything GTA related. They expressed regret for doing it before since Sony has been with them for so long.

Honestly, square enix is MS best bet for exclusive games.

xcom? damn am I the only one who saw that game? :S

I already have a rotten taste in my mouth because that series has been turned into an FPS.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

It didn't work for the Wii so why will it work for the 360?  Companies aren't stupid, they do research the market and if a massive increase in 360 sales after kinect happened they would know the people buying it will not be interested in the next Mass Effect.

Not seen any Wii Fit soccer mums buying Silent Hill on Wii I am afraid.

Exactly dude. You hit the nail on the head.

Yep and everyone knows Rockstar loves Sony just as much as a large cross section of publishers and devs.

Square Enix giving Microsoft quality exclusives? Excuse me if I laugh too hard. Microsoft will have to pay them up the yin yang where as Sony pays nothing much like most of whats been happening this gen. Microsofts had to pay for a lot of titles in the past two years where as Sony pays nothing.
