Yep, there must be a reason why Malstrom is suddenly deaf-mute about XB360S beating Wii and PS3 tying with it and instead he doesn't find anything better than furiously attacking the next Metroid game, when he's not playing Starcraft 2, that is. (Hey, didn't he say PC was dead?)

But obviously we don't understand anything, everything is going as planned, disruption will take decennia, then suddenly MS and Sony will implode into nothingness!  O-)  (PC doesn't count, it's already dead, its games are ghosts and who play them are mediums).

As far as I'm aware, no. If you have a link to where he said that, it would be nice of you to provide it.

And the irony, he wrote that steaming pile of BS in an answer to me one of his minions begged him to write! Poor Malstrom, karma is a bitch...

Oh dear me. Thats more steaming than usual, maybe the recent sales numbers ARE getting to him. The Wii is flat relative to itself but its declining relative to the sales of the other consoles. If he ever ventured here and looked at the front page he would see the reality of the market at present.

So much for the Xbox 360 and PS3's relative declines. If talking about the Xbox 360 market, the 360 in the U.S.A. has had a 25% and 33% decline in sale price over 4.5 years whereas the Wii has had a 20% decline in price over 3.5 years. Thats actually kinda comparable really. Overall the average sale price for the current generation consoles is significantly higher than it was last generation. IIRC the Xbox 360 was $199 within about a year of release for the HDD model, and the current 360 is still $150 more expensive at a comparable point in its life-cycle.

I can't see any implosions where im sitting. Funnily enough the Xbox 360 and PS3 are both experiencing stronger demand than they did when they launched. They'll probably go back into decline in 2011, that much is certain. Overall it certainly gives all the console makers a much more equal chance of being on top next generation than any console generation preceding. If this console generations competition is vicious, then the next generation could be unfathomable.

With at least a $50 cut for both of the HD consoles in the cards for next year I just can't see either of them being down by a whole lot, especially with them starting the year riding the momentum from Kinect in Americas and GT5/Move in EMEAA. Probably not enough to keep them up YOY but not a big drop off. Maybe even up by a fair bit if it's a $100 cut. Although there is a bit of danger in that for MS since $100 is usually the 'Jump the Shark' price.

All companies have plenty of place for price cuts. Sony can probably by now afford to drop PS3 prices to 250$, Microsoft should be able to at least drop Slim price to 200$ if arcade@150 would be too hard for their budget and Nintendo could easily go to 100$ for sku without WSR and probably remain profitable.

I'm assuming you are wrong on all fronts. Those are pretty steep cuts...Even on special the Wii only went on sale for $150. I'm gonna say maybe the PS3 could drop to $250 but they just keep increasing the HD size instead of letting the price drop. So for now it will stay at $300. I'm hoping for a $250 120 Slim cuz I have my 320GB hd from my YLOD ps3 waiting to be swapped in. Stop w the hard drive upgrades Sony!

Wii is definitely in trouble.

And why is that? Considering it essentially tied sales with PS3 this week, and PS3 has about 35 million less sales than Wii, shouldn't PS3 also be in trouble?

As much as I would hate to admit this, PS3 sales are going up while Wii sales are going down.  Also, PS3 software sales are very impressive when you consider its hardware base compared to 360 hardware sales.  For a 3rd place console, SONY has been doing something right with the PS3 for the past year.

Japan = the last hope of the gaming industry.

Japan has ranked third in most important regions worldwide. Americas is the most important region because of it being the largest market and right behind that is Europe/PAL. I doubt the Japanease market will ever be what it once was anytime soon.

From a sales point I agree.  Gamingwise (which is more important to hardcore gamers) I disagree.  I truly believe that both Nintendo and SONY (Japanese companies) produce the most innovative and hardcore games even though both companies employ Western and European developers.  Classics Nintendo franchises and current SONY offering are not trying to neccessarily reach the masses.  There are trying to reach the hardcore gaming audience.  That where the real hope lies for gamers.  Just because a sport is very financially lucrative doesn't mean the sport appeal to you.  So regardless of whom Nintnedo and SONY are working with (regionwise), there is still that creative influence that you don't normally find in mass marketable goods.  "Japan = the last hope of the gaming industry."

Fuck it! I decided to stop giving a damn about hardware sales. These conversations are pointless.

The Wii is not dead, I am sorry that its lowest numbers ever are around the PS3/360 time of most growth. I mean you didn't honestly believe it could win 3-1 every week for life did you?

The PS3 is just fine, Sony is making money and they are selling a lot more consoles. This combined with having the best game library since 2008 hasn't hurt either.

The 360 is on top now and has shown that even when it struggles ie under 90k ww this year it knows how to rebound.

There is no gloom and doom, so I am sick of listening to fan boys rants about sales so fuck it im out.

Hit me up if you want to play or talk about games.

Wow dude, settle down.  Do you honestly take your game sales that seriously that you get that worked up about it? It's fine if you do.  If you do, you should be able to take the punches that come with the sales discussion.

Whether you like it or not, Wii sales are declining while the HD console's sales are rising.  Those are facts.  Some people might say it's all doom and gloom for the Wii, other, like you, don't think there is gloom nor doom.

If you honestly don't care about sales and the inevitable discussion of the numbers and people's opinions about them, why come in here being all huffy and post about it?  Why not just ignore the threads since you don't care and go discuss games in a non-sales thread?
