Forums - Sales - Japanese hardware charts – PS3 closes on Wii’s year-to-date total

no YTD total for PSP Go? I want to calculate if it will sell through the first shipment by the end of this year. :(

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Year-to-date is combined.

lol.  I'm starting to think they've never move that 150k.  Shouldn't we be getting the 4000 soon?

Oh noez, Wii is d0med! :-O

now all we need is this scenario come to the united states and ps3 will stand where it deserves

No console that debuts for $600 deserves to be on top IMO.

MH4 should be on Ps3 with online

Its really a game that could make online major on consoles.

PS3 doesn't have enough userbase to make anything truly major, it's lacking the massmarket pull DS, Wii or even PSP have/had.  Go from MH3G on Wii/3DS to full blown MH4 on 3DS.

PS3 should get a Frontier port to test the waters...

If they made a MH on the Wii then I'm sure they can make a MH for PS3. And it would surely have better sales.

Other than that, I want DQXI in HD, not in 3D.

Wii was almost abondoned by the Japanese developers, no major release on wii unless nintendo games has been made this year, even the 360 gets more exclusives than the wii in japan, so thats why we must recognize that the nintendo brand is strong enough to keep pulling consoles just with its very name...

I think Biohazard DSC and DQMBRV were semi-major, even if both are spinoffs and did a bit worse than they should have.  Some 3rd party catalog games have been getting decent sales this year too, like Taiko Wii 2, Momotaru 2010 or the budget reprints of One Piece UA1-2.

It is looking pretty bad for the rest of the year though.  Inazuma Eleven and (maybe) Earth Seeker are about it for potentially exciting releases (sales wise) and DQX is still nowhere to be seen. :/

Inazuma Eleven has never been confirmed for this year, has it? I'd say Ninokuni PS3 has a higher chance of coming out first than Inazuma, considering the game has an official name and we've already seen direct footage, rather than some ghostly screenshots.

Earth Seeker won't reach 100k sold most probably, it's not even semi-big IMO...

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

I like to think about the end of the gen sometimes.  The Wii has reached the point where most people at least respect it and admit it has some great games, but how do you think its legacy or reputation will be in comparison to 360 and PS3, worldwide and specifically in Japan?

Macross Frontier will probably be a bigger hit than many are expecting here.  That releases in October.  I'm thinking it will do close to 300k the first week.

Historically, this is usually the worst time for Nintendo when the summer is ending and the school year is starting.

The market has changed this generation.  Usually there is one hand held and one console dominant and the other(s) are left with scraps.  This gen, two handhelds and two consoles are significant (sorry, 360 - have to leave you out of this one).  Even if 360 is not significant in the mainstream Japanese market, they have established a market with the harcore Otakus.  Funny how the 360 is the "cool kid's" console in America with the PS3 being the "uncool kid's" console.  They are switched around as far as HD consoles go in Japan.  The Wii has relatively the same type of market in both places, though.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
