Sony who are at the forefront of 3d.

Thats a laughable statement. Sony are trying to make you think they are at the forefront...but in reality is getting spanked from all sides.
They will not get many 3rd party devs to make 3D games for the PS3 (if any) since they did not provide sufficient 3D support and are asking the devs to optimize a game in 3D in 720p on a platform that has issues running games in 2D at that resolution.
Nintendo on the other hand with the 3DS has tonnes of interest and 3rd part developers making 3D software for it.
As far as their their TV division is concerned, Sony has to pretend that they are masters of 3D as they can't compete with price. The problem that Sony has is that because of their image as a high class brand, they can't go after the sub-$1000 HDTV segment. This is easily the fastest growing and most profitable target, but Sony is not built for that. So they have to tout that they are 3D hub of the world to make the buyer think they are getting more features with their TVs...while the truth is that Samsung, Panasonic and even Vizio have so far delivered superior 3d displays for less money.
Finally, as far as 3D gaming on the Ps3, they've locked out 6 million existing 3D users from using the PS3 for 3D with their manditory HDMI 1.4 standard. This is hillarious on so many levels, the funniest being the fact that PS3 doesn't even have HDMI 1.4. All they had to do is include a side to side 3D option, the exact same format that Direct TV 3D and Sky 3D support.
So Sony is really stuck inside their own la-la land with the whole 3D fiasco. They keep touting "We are 3D!!!!" while Nvidia on the PC gaming side as well as Samsung and Panasonic in the TV market are all runing circles around them.
