Forums - Sony - Move: Sony doesn't expect big day one sales, hopes for Eyetoy like success

Hes saying that PSmove will be succesful in the long run, due to good word of mouth, as was the eyetoy. Not that its gonna sell the same.

to the usual crowd, they see what they want to see...like ps3 haz no gamez..move haz no gamez...yada yada yada... :P can't really help them .. wishful thinking on their part

Pretty much what I've been thinking. I still don't think its lifetime sales will be more than 10% of the PS3 userbase and it definitely won't push new consoles.

Same goes with Kinect.

These types of devices need to be implemented as core components in a new console, not (expensive) addons to existing ones.

Yeah, it's somewhat like if Nintendo had gone ahead and released the Wiimote as just a Gamecube add-on in 2005/2006.  It's market impact would've been substantially lessened, and it might've even been smarter for Sony and MS to introduced similar "half-step" new systems with these interfaces instead.

Legend11, Its alright if you did a reading comprehension mistake, it happens. But, you could as well not start a thread if you dont care about the topic. (obviously since you never posted in it)

P.S.: I saw you were online recently

It reminds me of what I said in my Move strategy thread. Its pretty much exactly how I had it figured. The big push for Move will come in 2011 when they have the word of mouth base to build off. The fact that they are playing it slow and safe is only a negative if you're looking to find the negatives to outweigh any positives, I.E. you want it to fail.

Sony has enough time to push the device and they are pushing it in a very sensible way. What can really be said about this? Noone has said that the interface doesn't work, the only possible reasons why it won't is if they cannot get enough great content for Move and/or people don't want that kind of interface in the first place.

Tease.

wow talk about about spin in the headline :S

Move's success will be in the long run and not the short run.... as I have been saying so for ages now.... Eyetoy is just an example he used....doesn't mean they want the same amount of success or anything cuz clearly Move will be way bigger than eyetoy

and as for word of mouth and your FB example...what does that even mean? That doesn't = great word of mouth...it's baout the experience the people recieve over time..it doesn't matter if it's Kinect/Move, if the experience is less than promising = bad rep...even on FB lol

well i hope your right, which you seem to be alot.

LOL!!!

Im starting to think VGC needs a reading comprehension program in this site.

Really, even if it only sells as well as the EyeToy, that's nothing to scoff at.  I mean if the Move (just speaking of the Move controller) can sell over 10 mil units, that would be a big success.  Then, you have to think of all the Navs people would most likely buy.  They'd be making some serious dough off of that.  But, I feel it may surpass the EyeToy's success, especially considering it can offer a more core gaming experience, as well as being better supported by first and third parties.

As far as day one sales go, I don't how big they'll be, but Sony will at least have 2 Moves and 2 Navs purchased by me.

And if it doesen't... I'm sure they'll say its meeting sales expectations.

I don't see the Move having strong sales long term.

Guys I need some advice here, I want the PS Move at launch and it will take a while for Sony to bring it down to Mexico. I'm traveling to the US the week of September 20th so it actually matches the launch timeframe of Move. Should I preorder or run the risk of buying it directly at a store? Do you think there will be supply issues at launch?

One of my big questions for Move is if it will have the ability to bring RTS games to the console in a proper way. The excitement around R.U.S.E seems genuine and I guess if the PS3 version of that game does really well, who knows, maybe we could even start hoping for Starcraft 2 on our favourite console?
