NDcube was a second party studio of Nintendo's already. They just made it a first party studio. Secondly, Nintendo will be very careful about the developers that it purchases. It does not want to become too big that it become inflexible and can't catch on to the latest trends in gaming. It also wants to keep the talent of the studio, which is more important. This is why Nintendo would rather have partner studio's similar to what Microsoft has than to just buy up developers. Rare seemed like a promising purchase for Microsoft but that promise has been lacking. EA purchased a lot of studios only to close down a some of them like Bullfrog Productions, Pandemic Studios, and let's not forget Westwood Studios, the talent left the studio before and after being purchased.
Nintendo has also had it's own fair share of problems with some of it's second party studios like Left Field Productions, which was not happy with the way Nintendo developed games and purchased Nintendo's stake in the company in 2002. Silicon Knights left and Rare was purchased by Microsoft.
Nintendo will be very careful about the studios they purchase or partner with. Maintaining Studios is not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba
