Forums - General - Cab driver stabbed because he is a muslim (nyc)

My guess is the cab driver was stabbed, and he happened to be Muslim...so therefore according to the media he was stabbed because he is Muslim.

Cab drivers get attacked all the time (just ask Patrick Kane).

You know, beleive it or not but some people really do stab other people because they're muslims (or black, or mexicans, or gay etc.). It's because of thinking like yours that it's almost impossible to convict someone of a hate crime (even when it's plain obvious that it is a hate crime).

True, quite true. It's not great being a cab driver in NY, but when an attacker screams anti-muslim/jew/mexican/gay words without so much as robbing the cab driver or anything, I think it's safe to say that it's a hate crime.

Oh he did do that! Then yes its pretty obvious.

This... looks like another story that probably happens all the time to people of all races yet is only mentioned because people want to pretend there is a huge wave of islamaphobia growing.

I mean... did you even read the article you posted, what with him volenteering to groups that promote inter faith unity?

To me, it just sounds more like a drunk idiot attacking a cabbie.  His actual religion probably was irrelevent.

How can you say that someone is Muslim anyway?

He asked.  The dude really doesn't seem to show any  history that would suggest bigotry, and really more that shows an actual abject lack of racism (working in an orginization to prevent it.)

If there wasn't a whole "mosque debate" going on he'd simply be see is as some crazy guy who said things to unnerve someone before killing them.

I mean, seriously.  He specifically works in an orginizaition to stop religious bigotry.  If this was any other day of the week, people would probably be accusing him of trying to kill him to misguididly strengthen the foundations points.

Of course they were probably also wrong, since the guy is probably just a sociopath/serial killer waiting to be born.

"Michael Enright of Brewster, New York, who was booked on charges of attempted murder and assault with a weapon as a hate crime, is listed on Facebook as an employee of the New York City-based Intersections International, a “global initiative dedicated to promoting justice, reconciliation and peace across lines of faith, culture, ideology, race, class, national borders and other boundaries that divide humanity.” And a few weeks ago, they announced their support for — you guessed it — the Cordoba House, better known to many as the “Ground Zero Mosque.”"

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/archives/2010/08/was_the_muslim.php

The more information that comes out about the attacker, the more clear it becomes that his attack wasn't because he was opposed to the ground zero mosque; and (while it is a disturbing thought) it is entirely possible that (in a drunken stupor) he decided to attack the cabbie thinking he could get away with it to create a negative backlash against those who oppose the mosque.

Uuuu, conspiracy!

First off, you can't have a conspiracy involving 1 person ...

Beyond that, there have been reported cases of supporters of a cause performing illegal and immoral acts to make their opponents look bad. Typically these are act of vandalism, or astroturfing, but it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that a troubled individual might be willing to commit a violent act for the same purpose.

The "conspiracy", if it existed involed what you said in your second paragraph.

we should start labeling the attacker a terrorist, might help break down some steretypes as well as send him to Guantanamo where he belongs.

Nah, Christians aren't terrorists. Only people of other religions/beleifs  can be terorists. Didn't you know?

oh ya!

Wow, you guys really need to learn the differance between terrorists, and criminals.
