"We're Never Going To Have Another RE5 Controversy"

From Gamasutra:

When Capcom showed its first trailers of Japan-developed Resident Evil 5, the company was accused of racism in its depiction of primarily black African zombies fighting a white American protagonist. The company later took steps in both further development of the game's content and via its public relations to smooth over these problems before its eventual, highly successful, release.

It turns out that the Osaka-headquartered company has put forward a formal process for dealing with international cultural issues.

"Since the RE5 controversy, we have become much more aware of how important it is that we are part of the asset creation process early on so that we are able to have a say in the end product," says Capcom senior PR manager Melody Pfeiffer.

"We are also designing a lot of our own assets from this side of the pond, so that we are able to make strategic pieces of content that make sense for our market," she says.

"We are working really closely with our producers in Japan to construct these materials for the West and they are open more then ever to hearing our thoughts and ideas for assets."

The only criminal contraversy with resident evil 5 is how poor it turned out considering how long the development was and how amazing the game they based it on was.

RE5 was a great co-op action game, sorry to say this but Capcom did what it had to do to keep the franchise alive and healthy (over 6.5 million copies sold with Gold Edition) I doubt they return to their roots.

Capcom did what they had to do to keep RE series alive with part 4, and delivered a wonderful game.

RE5 sold 6.5 million cause everyone and their mother who played RE4 bought RE5. RE4 is still considered one of the best action games of all time and the sequel was highly anticipated.

What those 6.5 million people got was pretty much the same game as RE4 with coop and better graphics, but 1/2 the lenght, unplayable single player, completely rediculous story (vs half rediculous in part 4) and zero horror elements. Makes you wonder what capcom did for 4 years making RE5...

They should make Resident Evil 6 and then scrap it and start all over. Usually when they do this, the game turns out really great. With Resident Evil 2, they scrapped "1.5" and with Resident Evil 4 they scrapped various versions of "3.5". Both games turned out great.

Aw, fuck. See what you did, N'Gai?

I don't think RE5 sold well just because RE4 was awesome, look at RE3 it sold less than RE2 and it was obviously inferior and half the lenght while RE5 sold better than RE4 (even with a huge PS2 install base).

Capcom just tried to keep up with the times deliver a great game and make a nice profit, I like RE5, I think is great as I play it (like a co-op buddy 80s Zombie Movie, me and my brother cracking jokes at the ridiculous story) but I don't think they can do that again with RE6 it will fell "franchise fatigue".

PS: Sorry for my english not my first language

I say the next RE be in Africa but this time insted of black zombies put in white zombies only ... hm would that be less racist ?

re5 was not bad but i really but they get back to its roots like in RE 1-3

We all know coop sells so capcom did what they had to do to sell a lot, I agree with that.

The problem is that I can't think of a single thing RE5 did better than any other similar game. RE series used to be a trailblazing series that other games are trying to keep up with...But RE5 is significantly worse than a lot coop buddy shooters and its definetly not even close to RE4 as a single player experience.

Its still a fun coop buddy shooter...but so is Army of Two. Kinda sad that those 2 games are comparable to be honest.
