Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft denies voice control missing at Kinect launch

Microsoft also denied the limit of two active players max!

"Although it’s been reported all around on the internet, many of the Kinect launch titles support only two active players because of developer choice, not any kind of limitation of the technology." - See my website(below) for more details

MCV jumped the gun completely on this shit.  Voice control for non-english languages is what will not be available at launch.

Which is simply not acceptable at all... This feature should be ready for every market

Well seeing as most likely 3/4 of Xbox users speak English it is very acceptable.

Yeah, fuck the rest of the world, as long as the majority get what they want, the minority doesn't matter at all.

OT: That's pretty good news, though I still think they should postpone the launch. They have some bugs they can work out and they could probably have a larger launch if it wasn't releasing alongside heaps of games and other hardware.

Like Netflix?  Last.fm?  ESPN?

There is lots of stuff that is only available to a portion of the Xbox userbase.

How about games released only in Japan?  Do you think companies shouldn't be allowed to release those until they are localized into every other countries language and released worldwide?

Ummm, Kinect is a piece of hardware. The whole voice command thing is one of it's main selling points. It's like if PS3's in Japan had PSN, but PS3's in Australia didn't. If your going to release something, then your better off waiting until everything's sorted out and every customer can start on an equal footing.

Ummm, Xbox 360 is a piece of hardware.  Netflix, Last.fm and ESPN were big selling points during the last couple of E3s yet they are only available in the US.

You proved nothing with your point.  Hardware or software, sometimes not every region will get all the features that other regions might.  Besides, the voice control for stuff like movie control still works.  I don't care where you are from you can learn to say "Xbox stop.  Xbox play."

Also, please explain to me why it's better for Microsoft for them to wait?

The Kinect obviously isn't ready? The thing barely works at acceptable standards, the launch lineup is absolutely ridiculous, alot of the promises they made at last years E3 has yet to be implemented and I'm sorry If I care more about a quality product than I do about the Microsoft VGCHartz circle jerk in the sales thread.

I don't agree with your other opinion, so I won't reply to it as I've already explained my opinion in the thread. I barely said anything negative about Microsoft and people came jumping at me, whatever, I've learnt that my opinion is a better one in comparison to the biased people on this forum.

When did you get a chance to play it?

So I can't rely on the 10 gaming podcasts I listen to? Or the articles that are littering the Internet? Or the videos that clearly show a large amount of lag? It's only when it comes to gaming that everyone has to go out and actually buy the product before they can pass judgement, because gaming is serious business. Are you telling me now, that the Kinect is a top quality product, that it does 1 to 1 controls, scans objects into games, has 640 X 480 resolution, detects your fingers, has four player multiplayer and actually has a decent launch line-up? I'm sorry if I consider what's best for the consumers and not how much Microsoft dick I can suck while typing on a forum.

I came into this thread with good intentions, listed one opinion about when they should launch the Kinect, so that they can have a more appropriate and successful launch and I'm flamed out by the VGChartz Micro Knights.

@Mr.Pugglsy, cute argument.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

It's a broken link.

But were you implying that Microsoft could be lying again, or that the talk of two players max was also shot down?

Remember that the Kinect APIs are still being optimized, and will continue to be updated and made available to users via LIVE.

I'd caution against relying too heavily on Podcasts - most of the titles showed aren't the latest builds, just functional demos tuned for stability over performance.  I've seen the lag on one build be noticeable and on the next negligible.

Respectfully, your list of things that Kinect "has to do" is actually irrelevant.  What's relevant is what the technology does in combination with the developer's code.  Whether Kinect detects fingers is meaningless if the game doesn't use fingers for control.  I'd argue that "what's best for consumers" doesn't have anything to do with your list, either - what's best for consumers is probably closer to "what kind of fun do they have with the device and the games".

Having seen many of these titles first hand, and having watched user reactions and heard the spontaneous oohs and laughs, I believe most consumers are going to love it.  There's no other tech currently available to do Dance Central, for example - not without strapping a dozen wands to your limbs.

Lauch will be "Welcome to Kinect" - much like other launches, there will be good and fair titles, and likely a great title or two; Second and Third-gen Kinect titles will just get better at everything.  Thinking back, I had a lot of fun with 360, PS3 and WII launch titles, why wouldn't we be able to similarly enjoy Kinect launch titles?

I was going to make a long reply, but I'm tired and this thread is getting annoying. I came in with good intentions and now I'm leaving with a much lower opinion of a lot of people. You actually made a decent argument though, so don't take any offence if I don't bother with a large response.

You said, "I came into this thread with good intentions" and something about sucking dick in the same post...lol.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

I said I came in with good intentions, that doesn't mean I left with good intentions. I was also referring to how I don't suck corporate dick, if others do, good for them, it's not cool to be judgemental of what people suck in their free time.
