Forums - Gaming - Wouldn't it be cool if Amano did the next Final Fantasy's art direction?

Nomura was only brought on because 3D engines at the time COULDN'T emulate Amano's style. And quite frankly that's all I've ever seen Nomura as: the placeholder, the guy who was around because of technology restraints and he peaked around the first Parasite Eve. Then Yoshida came along and blew Nomura out of the water in terms of gorgeous artwork. Nomura has gotten too gaudy, too overblown, and too concerned over making someone look "stylish" and as such his designs just bore me.

But anyway, I would LOVE to see Amano's style on the current gen hardware. If we aren't the point where we can do Amano's style, we're very close. I know Amano said he would like to do a project with Sakaguchi and the old FF team again at some point.

One thing with Amano's art is that his style is very fantasy like.  Nomura's stuff just looks like anime stuff which isn't necessarily bad, but Amano's stuff suits the fantasy stuff that Final Fantasy should be like.  Bringing him back would be nice.

I'd prefer they alternate. It would keep the series artstyle more ineteresting and refreshing.
With 6,9,10,13  being my favorite in artyle. 2 Amano, 2 Nomura
With TWEWY, X, or FFIX, Okami those 4 being my favorite in art design in a videogame ever.

I prefer they use them both. Though I don't really love Yoshida's designs they seem like a cross between nomura and amano to me. so I won't implore they use thrice, but that's fine if they use him.

Amano is a better artist than nomura. But, I haven't seen it transfer to polygons that well. FFIX didn't look that much like his drawings either, but they looked significantly different than nomura and spectacular.

I just saw in wikipedia... it has his as an art designer for beyond good and evil 2. Don't know if that's true or not... and there isn't news on that... and it could be canceled.

But, I do want Final Fantasy 15 to be amano, so yes. it would be cool.

there is good fantasy anime such as for example. twelve kingdoms. which uses anime like characters. And studio ghibli films like Princess Mononoke.

and maybe they asked Amano and he doesn't want to... he wants to do other things... such as direct an anime :P

Yes but I meant his actual style the way he colors and draws.  I've never seen anything like it.  The way he draws his lines and such.

Yes, thats why i made this thread! , with current gen graphics, he can finally do it like his artwork, seeing all those beautiful looking downloadable games why not?

I agree as I've stated before. I don't think Nomura should do FFXV despite me liking him. That would be awesome if it was Amano.

What are his relations with Square Enix. Isn't he a freelancer now so he doesn't have to do it with Square Enix. Though his best bet for a game with his art Fully realized in a videogame is Final Fantasy. Because it get's bigger budgets, they spend a lot of money on graphics most likely, and it would seem like it's an option being's he did the art for about half the series.

Yes Okami, was a fully realized art game... and very good I might add. But didn't that lose money?or maybe it made money by now. I'm not sure.

He's always been a freelancer he was never actually employed by Square Enix.

then who knows...  If he's freelance he can do whatever he wants.

maybe he might not want to do it.  Maybe he's bored of Final Fantasy. (Does anyone know the actual reason why he didn't do the art for FF7? "Because Tetsuya Nomura did it" is not an answer. I know after FF7 they'd be inclined to use Tetsuya Nomura possibly because his sell better whether it be to coincidence or he has more commercial appeal I have no idea which is true. As his  FF's 7,8,10,13 are the top 4 selling final fantasy's

Maybe he does and Square enix won't let him. maybe they both dont care. I don't know, if it's any of those it just won't happen.

but hopefully he gets his game. as he hasn't had one since FFIX And his artwork is superb. I even have his Final Fantasy X promo artwork on my wall.
