@ zaMy: "because other people do it" is not a reason for anything :-/

@ Galaki: Because there are different words, doesn't mean it's not part of the same thing. A chair and a couch are both things to sit on (so they belong to "seating possibilities" for example) but they are two different things. Doesn't mean that they don't belong to the same category. Piracy and theft can be considered the same thing.

if you buy a $400 console i think games should be around $40, then maybe id be them. even then, its so easy to steal online; music, videos, games ect. I would rather get free virtual stuff and get away without paying, and use that money to go to something more worth while. Who cares if its stealing, millions of other people do the exact same thing. It's mainstream. As for stealing real objects.. thats a differnet story.

Why is it?  You're still still stealing something, and games take a lot of time, effort and money to produce.  What do you think would happen if everyone played pirated games rather than paying for them?  Why should I, and other people who pay for games, subsidise your gaming?

I don't get some people and there weird sense of entitlement to things that they have no power over. Pirates talk as if developers owe them favours or something. If you can't afford something, then don't buy it. I can't afford a Mercedes SLK, I also don't think it's worth $70,000, that doesn't automatically give me the right to steal it.

If you live in a third world country then that's your problem, not the problem of the people developing the games. If prices are to high in your country, then you should do something about it instead of stealing. Gaming is a hobby that requires a heavy investment, if you want a cheap hobby then collect bottle caps or play football instead.

Comparing software to physical properties does not help your case, neither.

It'd probably be good if you gave me a reason why.

Try checking out other piracy related threads. It's been dabated to death.

Or by just the word itself. Piracy.

If it's theft, why it is called piracy and not theft?

You didn't answer the question...

Piracy is theft in the same was as car jacking is theft. It's just a different type of terminology to brand different types of theft.

Again. Piracy is another word for "copyright infringement".

damn taxes! i can get my games at 70$ but games never get price cuts, and used games always cost 40$. the good thing is that if i trade a game that has no sequel il just pay 30$ for a game. the only pirated game i bought this year was starcraft 2 :P.

i hope that next gen prices decrease. gaming is expensive, im going to buy a 3d tv for 2500. and 2 gt wheels each is at 150 and a ps eye this fall just to play gt5. and gt5 is going to retail at 80 :(.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

@Rafael & Onibaka:

Porra com esses preços, eu também vou começar a importar. Valeu mesmo pela dica!

@Nomad Blue:

I won't bother explaining to you the difference between theft and copyright infrigement. I'm sure someday someone will tell you.

Boas...

Ok, but how does that make it any less illegal? Is piracy illegal? Should it be encouraged? Does encouraging piracy have any sort of negative impact on the gaming industry? I want to be educated.

Edit: Actually you don't have to answer, I realise that your intentions from the beginning was to correct me and not to argue that piracy is a good thing.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Nomad Blue said it right... why do paying gamers have to support the gaming industry so others can have it for free? what gives you the right?

do we have verification that it works other than the Videos they posted?

do we have a official word about Sony regarding that matter?

at this stage in time for me it is still the biggest money grabbing scam in modchip history.

sure, i might enjoy some roasted crow in a few weeks time, but if not, many people will find out what it means to be Pirated , and i will enjoy some meltdowns

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Note that I never said anywhere that piracy is good.

It's bad. It's just not the same as theft that the big corps wanted you to believe.

I just don't like misinformation, that's all.

Hmm...buy a second PS3 for offline only...

Might be Ok for actual games, but you can bet that future games (GT5 Anyone ?) will require a new firmware to be played and this firmware will also disable USB Boot...
