Forums - General - Australian Federal election.

I've just cast my vote.

For all those overseas its looking like its going to be really really close, the polling shows that the two major parties both basically have a 50% chance to win and many of the minor parties (such as the greens and maybe even the sex party) should see pretty decent support. Especially the greens which are looking to increase they're share of the primary vote by quite a lot since the last election.

Yeah I just got home from voting too.. Tried this morning but there was like no parking at any polling places around my area.. Anyway I voted Gillard on the green ballot (I'm in Gillard's electorate)  and Green's on the white ballot paper. Overall I'm hoping for the Labor government to be returned and the Greens to gain the balance of power.

A Liberal government would crush my hopes and dreams..

Edit: Also for those not in the know, Labor has to lose 17 seats to lose power which is looking extremely unlikely BUT Liberal only have to win 14 as there are 3 independents look set to return and would side with Liberal to form a government. Liberal winning 14 is too close to call going by preliminary polling etc.

I really hope the Liberals win and we don't get Labour's Internet filter censoring content and spying on us.  I don't want more emtpy promises of GP superclinics and a policy on climate change to procrastinate with a citizen's assembly and an extra carbon tax.

Just cast my vote. Voted for Labor on both ballots. At least if Labor wins they will finish the National Broadband Network and we won't get another version of work choices.

If you had kept up you'd know that there isn't enough support for the internet filter. You'd also know that there'd be 'spying' if it did get through.

WTF? It's a Labour policy - if re-elected and they win enough seats then yes they will implement it.

Nope, there wouldn't be:

There is more to parliament than Labor and Liberal. Greens will have the power in the senate (that's why I voted for them in the senate) and the filter will not get through the senate.

i voted Labour.. because honestly i dont give a rats ass about politics, i just wanna avoid a fine or jail time lol

Another reason compulsory voting is a joke.
