Forums - Microsoft - Standalone Xbox 360S 250GB HDD Price revealed

Just the other day while shopping at one of my local electronic retailers, I was tempted to buy the new Xbox 360S (4GB). It looked tempting; the sleek new design is great, and Wi-Fi is a nice addition but it isn't worth the indulge. My primary hope is that I could get a 4GB Xbox 360S now and not have to pay an "arm and leg" for an HDD upgrade. There is currently no standalone 120GB Xbox 360S HDD, so you're stuck between getting the 4GB or the 250GB 360s. Major Nelson has released a video showing the new standalone retail Xbox 360S 250GB HDD that will cost you a hefty $129.99. This basically gives you no incentive to buy the 4GB Xbox 360S if you planned on upgrading to a 250GB HDD in a reasonable amount of time, you're better off waiting until you can purchase the 250GB 360. Hopefully they can release a 120GB HDD at a reasonable price; as for this 250GB HDD, it should be arriving at retailers within this week and next.

so its an arcade slim 250gb with no kinect?

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Well it was never going to be cheaper than $100 so figures it'd be around that

That's really a disappointment.  I was thinking about getting the 4gb 360S because I like the matte finished better and then getting a hard drive.  However, if I did that I would be spending $30 more :(.  I wonder if they are going to release smaller storage hard drives later, such as 60gb and 120gb?

An article by examiner on the topic

The introduction of the Xbox 360 S (aka Slim) came not only with a new case design and updated internal hardware but also a change in hard drives.  Instead of the caddy that holds a hard drive on the side, the updated console has a slot on the side to insert the hard drive.  With the latest introduction of the hard drive less Xbox 360 S Arcade, Microsoft held off on selling the new hard drives separately until now.

GameStop has the 250GB hard drive for the Microsoft console on sale for $139.99.  For most, this acts as an incentive to purchase the Elite version of the console that comes with the hard drive as buying the Arcade and hard drive separately is $40 more.

While you can use USB flash drive and hard drives for up to 16GB, we've found that the internal hard drive is preferable if you plan on downloading games and content or installing games on the hard drive so the DVD drive doesn't get too loud as it spins.

For now, it only appears that GameStop is selling.  A quick check at Amazon, Best Buy and other retailers doesn't bring anything up.  We'll update this article when we see more.

Thanks :)

I don't think I'd pay more than $80 for a 360 hard drive. If mine breaks I'm going to USB sticks.
