Forums - Sales - Worldwide Up! (14th August 2010)

When I look at the sales before and after the 360s launch it's very interesting to see that the Wii's sales decreased while PS3's sales are still on the same level. So actually the 360 took away sales from the Wii, and not from the PS3. That's surprising IMO.

Next week we should expect a very little sales boost for the PS3 in Americas because the 160gb version is already available (I saw it at least at some online retailers). In Europe it isn't available so probably we could even see a decrease there because everyone is now waiting for the newer versions. I don't really get why there are no clearance prices yet, it doesn't have to be 50€/$, but at least 20-30. But we'll see.

The 360 slim arcade launches on august 20th in Europe, too, but somehow I think the effect on sales will be much lower than most people expect.

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

Microsoft has doubled their internal studios not to mention all the partnerships they have with smaller studios will start panning out starting this year... the Xbox team has something to prove because unlike Sony shareholders Microsoft share holders are banging at the doors to have the team shut down...  they've got to hit it big before they can add 10 in house dev teams.

Are we still saying the Xbox 360 has no game for next year?! I am hearing this since 2007.

2011 titles:

  • Forza Kinect (Turn10)
  • Gears of War 3 (Epic)
  • XCOM (2K Games)
  • Star Wars Game (MGS)
  • Project Kingdom (Crytek)
  • Crossboard 7 (Konami)
  • Fighters UNCAGED (Ubisoft)

Those are confirmed.

And E3 will give us new games as well.

1) Notice I said the sales of all three consoles will be very close next year (during the slow periods at least). But ultimately I think 360 will end up back in last by a hair for a few key reasons. One, the slim effect will contine to wear off. Second, the weakness of the 360's library going into next year compared to PS3. Third, the lack of strength in Japan dragging it down compared to Wii and PS3.

2) 360 has some strong titles this holiday; Reach is the obvious one, Dead Rising 2, Fallout, etc. But most of them are also coming out for PS3. And MS has not shown they are focused on core games judging from their showing at E3. There is little coming out in 2011 for MS, at leaast from what they've announced.

For Kinect, I'm just taking an educated guess, but from what I've seen, this thing is set up to be a collosal failure. Why? Just look at the titles. I can't imagine many people seeing any standout games to spend $100 for Kinect on, let alone $100 for Kinect PLUS $300 for a new console. Remember, it is software that moves hardware. This will be true for Kinect as well, no matter how neat the motion controls are. Kinect also has certain issues in that you cannot even sit while playing, nor can you play more than 2 people at once.

Will it bump hardware? Of course it will. In fact, for a few months, it will probably MASSIVELY boost hardware. But when talking LONG TERM success, Kinect will fade out quickly, unless MS and third parties drastically strengthens its software lineup for it, and MS will be left with the burden of its own 32x. I don't quite understand why people seem to believe that a cheap Wii knockoff will be such a massive hit, when even the ACTUAL Wii console is currently struggling, and it has a much stronger library than Kinect will.

As I said before MS has been doing this the whole generation.  We will no much more about 2011 lineup as we get closer to 2011 and get into 2011.  MS will let 2010 lineup get the attention now.  As for 360 library it is awesome and growing

You clearly dont even pay attention much to Kinect. First the price for standalone is $150 not $100.  That really doesnt matter though.  For those people they already have a 360.  It is the bundle price that matters and that is $300 with the Kinect included. Not $100 for Kinect and another $300 for the console.  As for the software.  As someone who has played the software the launch titles are just what the Kinect needs to appeal to a new demographic.  Really that is what it is for.  Now someone can choose an outstanding console for both the hardcore and the casual player and maybe a family that has both will play some together.  After all I love hardcore games, but can appreciate being able to play Dance Central with my wife.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

With these weekly holds for the 360, and the launching of the new arcade, the launch of Halo Reach might do some interesting things to the charts...I will just point out that a majority of folks on this site, last year, projected Halo Reach to totally undersell MW2's opening bow on the 360, and probably not even reach Halo 3.  Let's jsut keep that in mind....come Sept 15th.

2011 titles:

  • Forza Kinect (Turn10) - Great...if its not kinect only
  • Gears of War 3 (Epic) - Mindblowingly awesome
  • XCOM (2K Games) - Also on PC
  • Star Wars Game (MGS) - Kinect only
  • Project Kingdom (Crytek) - Not sure if its Kinect only...if it isn't it'll most likely come to PC as well...its by Crytek after all
  • Crossboard 7 (Konami) - Kinect only
  • Fighters UNCAGED (Ubisoft) - Kinect Only

Those are confirmed.

I'm sure we'll see more at E3, but that line up looks pretty weak atm...but that will probably change.

I have nothing against the casual experience Kinect brings...but it has more to prove in the core game department.....

Kingdoms will be a Core game that has nothing to do with kinect and its Published by Microsoft so Microsoft will do what they want to Kingdoms not Crytek...

GodOfWar_3ever: Go read T10 forum and stop spamming bullshit about next Forza title being Kinect only. It was a showcase of one of the modes in the game.

I believe the Crytek game has been confirmed for only 360.

Being Kinect only does not make the game less exclusive.

I forgot Milo btw. Could be a game or could not. Who knows. As far as I can judge: Too much people are working on a tech demo...

And we don't know what

  • Rare
  • FIrebird
  • Spawnpoint studios
  • 343 industries (not 2011 though)
  • feelplus
  • Mistwalker

are working on.

And the new Mech Assault game should be released 2011, too.
