Forums - Sales - 3D TV - my experience

I have had the 3D tv for a while now and am sure that some of you will be interested in reading about this experience.

TV (Samsung LED UE46C8000) arrived with one day delay and I was even more disappointed when the free 3D blu ray player wasn’t delivered! I have to wait for another week to get it…

The TV was easy to set up so within 15 minutes I had it up and running updated with the latest software and connected to PS3.

OK so here we go, lets check the 3d. First was Stardust HD 3D. The console asks if you want to play in 3D and then tv is asking you to put on the glasses. No need to go to settings or anything. All automatic. When the game started I was truly amazed with the effect. Imagine seeing colourful space with planets and stars in your room. Things started popping out of the screen when I crushed my spaceship. It blows up and you see hundreds of pieces flying out of the tv. That was so cool! The colourful fireworks effect was also beautiful when you complete the mission. The ship also makes a small circle outside the TV. I then played Wipeout HD 3D Motorstorm Pacific rift 3D. Fantastic visuals and such a different experience when playing the games in 3D. No ghosting/crosstalk or problems with glasses connection people reported few months ago. I believe that all the issues were sorted with the firmware updates.

2D->3D conversion

Not so good for the blu ray movies unless you watch WallE or Final Fantasy etc. It adds extra depth and sometimes things pop out of the screen (mostly text) but nothing really spectacular.

It is quite different for games. The 3D effect is much better and it adds a nice depth to the game. Am just going to play all the standard games with this conversion.  Still have to check out Avatar the game in 3D.

I only have one 3D movie now so it can wait until I get the player. The console will be updated to play 3D movies in September. Interesting that Sony must have planned this years ago before we could even think about having 3D TVs home. PS3 is quite old now but seems futureproof.

Amazon has a list of active 3d movies coming soon and I hope this technology will take off.

Did it help in the racing games at better judging turn in points and such?

Cool....you must be filthy rich then

I am thinking on buying the Philips 46PFL8605H 3D LED TV 46'' or the Sony KDL-40HX800 3D LED TV 40''

These are both the same price, around 2000 euro..not sure what to get though the Philips looks better

@OP I am glad you like it..I cant wait for killzone3 in 3D

thanks for telling us,

how much does that telly cost then and you need a 3d bd player do you,how much is that

personally i'm more interested in 3d games than movies, they seem to have more effect/difference

unless i see a 3-d movie at a proper 3-d cinema it doesn't seem worth it,but maybe thats just me

what about when people are round does everyonme get a pair os 3-d specs, lol

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

To be honest I found both Wipeout HD and Stardust to be quite sub par in 3D. Compared to what I'm use to on the PC, both games are very "lite" on 3D effects. After playing them I decided not to even bother with the PS3 3D tech...instead I'm getting a 3D projector and new video cards for the PC.

The fact you can't increase depth in these games is criminal. Sony needs to include a way to increase depth and convergence for people that hve their eyes used to 3D.

But otherwise, Im glad yuo like your TV. I still see slight crosstalk every time I check out the 55 inch Samsung LED at the mall. You really have to know what to look for and look for it very closely... But it doesn't ruin your experience.

Give Avatar a try...its really good in 3D even if the game is kinda crap. You will manually have to adjust the 3D settings fo that game. Checkerboard on the TV and in game settings will give you the bet 3D results...
