How can people keep saying "every mario game is the same, you just kill bowser everytime," and "Nintendo never innovates, they just put out the same crap every year. Save the Princess, Save the other princess, kill bowser, blah blah blah," when Super Mario Galaxy just came out. Seriously, have you guys played it?

What I don't understand is why it's being hyped so much.  There are sooooo many PS3 games more deserving of that hype than Killzone 2.  It's getting more attention than freaking MGS4.  What the heck is wrong with the world when a sequel to a mediocre game get's more attention than the sequels to some of the biggest franchises of all time (MGS, GT, FF)!?

Oh, and LittleBigPlanet deserves much more attention than Killzone 2 as well.  What sucks is because of the hype it's going to get better sales than a lot of these games.  Hype is a monster, and lack of hype can kill a great game (poor Zack & Wiki).

I don't see the point of defending Nintendo games, like others have said, if it aint broke don't fix it. But at the same, Nintendo is probably the least innovative company out there in videogames. While I'm sure that's a point many will argue against, they've done things very differently this gen, but they haven't really INNOVATED much of anything. And there's nothing wrong with that. Nintendo has more or less always been fairly conservative. They don't like change, and will only do so if pushed into a corner. That's probably part of their appeal, the fact that they really don't change much over time.

This post is should be a joke.

"Starcraft 2 should be #1"

agreed

" Mass Effect has the same structure that Bioware games have had since Baldur's Gate II"

with some really small changes like the fact that fighting is now FPS style but its almost the same as Baldur's Gate 2

"Bioshock is System Shock 2 underwater"

Since System Shock 2 was one of the best games ever and there has not been a credible successor for many years I would still count that as pretty new and fresh.

", Assassin's Creed is just another spin on sandbox games"

just another spin on sandbox games? I am willing to bet that some of the elements of Assassin's creed will be found in many titles to come. The huge open city, the awesome crowd, some of the gaming mechanics like climbing, jumping (even the basic fighting mechanic is fresh and cool although it needs some finetuning). I would say Assassin's is the most innovative, beautiful and ambitious game this year although it may not be the best.

"and Uncharted is Romancing the Stone the video game."

yes it is and this is awesome. Uncharted is the first interactive movie that is really fun. After the last disappointments I have great hopes for coming games in this style. Interactive Movies are a great idea. The last full-motion version sucked because gameplay was bad but now they are truly possible.

"I'm not saying that any of these games are bad, but don't pretend they're original. "

I don't know what you file under original, but weird games like Okami or Katamari are not original for me. They are just weird (for me). I think its much more impressive if someone takes the basic Prince of Persia mechanics that millions loved and adds a free-roaming world, a credible ancient world and a big freedom what to do. Yes I am an Assassin's fanboy. Ubisoft Montreal is one of the best studios. True innovation is if you do something and in the following two years many clones come up that at least take parts of your game and copy it. Mario64 was like that and I am willing to bet that Assassin's will also be like that.

Top FPS list of 2008...zzz

What a list full of crap. Nothing but shooters, shooters and shooters. Oh goody, Mario Kart. And where the heck is White Knight Story?!!

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Supporter of PlayStation and Nintendo

The top 3 games of next year, hands down, are StarCraft 2, Spore, and Brawl.

The leap from Melee to Brawl will destroy the leap from GTA3 to GTA4.

And I'm only saying this once in this thread: Nintendo is not the epitome of milking franchises. They are just the ONLY company to be this successful for this long. See the difference? Your argument will make sense when we stop having new Mega Man or Sonic games, or when a single developer on the planet decides that a franchise is... DONE. It doesn't happen.

Can you seriously talk shit about Nintendo while hyping Halo 3, Killzone 2, GTA4, MGS4, and FF13?

SEQUELITIS IS INDUSTRY-WIDE.
