undertracked by 3 milions... something is wrong because if this is real then ps3 should be at 39 or 40M and SONY says its at 38M. No way it sold 2M in July to this date... When is selling like 70K on japan per month and 200k on STATES!
i just think vgchartz is undertrackinh Ps3 hugely in "others", i mean, thats the only region we dont have official numbers from

Actually it seems that Sony just used HW data from their previous quarter report. PS3 shipments reached 38.1 million by end of june. So they had also already shipped those 16 million consoles to EU by end of June. So in reality EU shipments are probably closer to 17 million at the moment and total PS3 shipments at least 39 million. Definitely undertracked.
I figured out that difference is in OTHERS region where VGCHARTZ has the weakes tracking among the three regions (NPD in USA, MC and Famitsu in Japan). PS3 is undertracked here and it is obvious where the difference is.
Americas and Japan are well tracked mainly because we have sources every weeks / months and VGC can adjust those numbers so they will never Fail in Americas / Japan. On other Hand we have the Rest of the World... Australia , Europe , New Zeland , Africa and Middle East. We know UK Numbers... Sony said somewhere they sold 3M in U.K the biggest market For Ps3 in Europe ... France we also know they are around 2M or more... but we dont know all the others markets...
Iberia , Nethelands , Germany , Greece , italy etc...

Like I said they had PS3 at 38.1 million already in their latest quarter report. They just don't have probably newer numbers so they said that 38 million as not that many people read quarter reports. It's already almost two months since end of june so total shipments are actually more than that 38 million. it's probably a bit overtracked somewhere but also undertracked hugely in EU. Over 3 million in store shelves is a lot for one market area.
Maybe, but just maybe, being on line with UK, Japan and USA trackers isn't enough
Using the data below I think we can all agree that logically it doesn't make sense. There is something off in the VGC accounting for hte PS3 overall. However, I don't think it is just being undertracked in Europe, but probably overtracked in other regions.
So, in total VGC isn't off by much, especially not any amount to make anybody scream OMG PS3 IS REALLY WINNING!!!!!
I bet VGC is off by less than 1m worldwide if there were a way to know exactly how much shifted to the end user.
*Data through end of June to compare VGC others/europe with Sony shipped figures.*
| VGC Americas | VCG Japan | VGC Others | VGC % of total sales | |
| PS3 | 14,310,511 | 5,307,180 | 16,164,502 | 45% |
| Sony Europe | Sony % of total ship | On Shelves in Europe | % of total on shelves |
| 18,000,000 | 47% | 1,835,498 | 83% |
| VGC Total | Sony Total | On Shelves Total | est on shelves amer/jp |
| 35,782,193 | 38,000,000 | 2,217,807 | 382,309 |

However, we must understand that this is all affected by Sony's rounding up of their numbers. They will always present stuff in a rounded up in PR dialogue within reason. So the totals are definitely off depending on how much up they really rounded. Was Europe really 17.5 million? Is worldwide really 37.5 million? So, in total VGC isn't off by much, especially not any amount to make anybody scream OMG PS3 IS REALLY WINNING!!!!! EMEAA is not same as EU. For EU vgchartz has PS3 at 13million.
