A look at the sales numbers tell you that it is the 360.

and one look at the failrate tells you it's the ps3

And the attach rates say it's the 360.

Like i said... It's impossible to find out for sure. There are too many factors swaying the numbers all over the place.

The facts we have though point towards it being the 360.

Which attach rate? Anyway you cannot determine number of consoles with that. If we could it would mean that PS3 in fiscal year 2009 at 10% more console.

I really want to crush the myth that there are plenty of PS3's for Blu-ray use only. Just look at this years software sales. PS3 has actually sold more software than X360 with smaller userbase. Even after X360 S launch PS3 has sold more software than X360 even though X360 has crushed it in HW sales. Just let it die already. X360's better attach rate is mainly due one year (one and half in EU) headstart.

Actually it seems that in 2009 the attach rate was higher on the PS3. Tough it may be related to better exclusives, not necessarily more console.

http://www.playstationuniversity.com/ps3-software-sales-outstrip-xbox-360s-ps3-attach-rate-up-to-8-1-3807/

On that site it actually says the 360 has a better attach ratio.

8.8 to the PS3's 8.1

I'm sure the 360's is somewhere around the 10 mark though...

Thats the new NPD info for the last quarter I think. What I posted is full a whole year and isnt just america.

The 43 percent failrate was an anecdotal figure from a repair centre at the height of the problem.

Even if true it's an unreliable figure which pertains to only the launch Xbox machines.

The failure rate for the reworked machines Oct 07 onwards was rumoured to be much much lower.

Applying the 43 percent to all Xbox's sold since launch is at best sensationalist at worst disingenuous

actually it was a number from a poll in 2010

Thats even worse.

Well lets look at the all the possible factors to the attach rate

-amount of consoles in households

-fact that most multi console owners get most of their multiplats for 360 (for varies reasons)

-fact that alot of ps3 owners don't use it primarily as a gaming device

-360 owners had an extra year to buy games

did I miss anything, based on those I think it's reasonable to assume the 360s would be a little higher even if the ps3 had a few more consoles in households, what are the exact attach rates?

poll of 500,000 people where they were only allowed to vote once, and I haven't seen anything as reliable putting the 360 anywhere under that

We don't know that the ps3 has a smaller user base with all the failed 360s it's very possible that there are more working ps3 then 360s in households

Finallt the word online poll has fallen:

So... does this mean that 63% of ps3 are bought as a bluray-player?! :O

Oh wait.. some people have gotten their ps3 with their HDTV. Count those 2 together and now we know that 99% of the people who bought ps3 did not buy it for the games. Right? :O

Exactly! it means polls are stoooooppid...

Plenty of PS3 owners picked up a slim to replace their older models. 360 has a bigger install base.

Although that is true, for everyone one that replaced their old model with a slim theres probably about 3 that did it for the jasper and about 1 that did it again for the 360 silm

Oh ok you're right. I must be imagining things then when every person I know owns a 360 and I can count on one hand how many people own a PS3. Its time for you to buy a calendar and realize this isn't 1999 when Sony dominated. The 360 has sold more consoles, has a bigger install base, and is annihilating the PS3 in USA and will continue to do so. In the others region its a heated battle. Sony has Japan and always will.

Its stupid to use your own experience to judge the overall rates of anything. I really hope you are 13 or so or that you never attended college. Most of the people I know suprisingly own both equally does that mean Americans own the 360 and PS3 equally, Hell no.

Actually I'm 29 and attending college for a Computer Graphics Technology major. Before you try to assume that I don't know what I'm talking about and using my own personal experiences as an example is worthless you might want to polish up your grammar skills. It is a fact that the 360 has sold many more consoles in the USA which is exactly what I just said in my post. Hence I live in the USA therefore I know many more people who own a 360 compared to a PS3.

I'm sorry I'm going to back away from the debate at the juncture. If you cannot see whats wrong with what you have just written I'm not going to waste my time pointing it out !
