Forums - Gaming - Who do you think has the larger install base 360 or ps3

PS3 has 38.1 mil shipped

360 has 41.7 mil shipped

but you need to remember one thing the 360s failrate is about 42% overall (2010 study) where ps3 is closer to 8% so that means about 17,514,000 360s have failed at one point or another where only about 3,048,000 ps3s have, granted the majority of those 360s have probably been repaired and returned/resold but alot of them have probably been thrown out or left lying around so the question is do you think enough 360s have been broken and stayed that way to close the gab between 360 and ps3, I'm pretty sure their pretty close but with 17 million failed consoles I'm going to say ps3 probably has a larger working install base then 360

Thats bullshit, I might buy that their used primary as blu ray players but the owner would definitely pick up the occasional game, besides as long as the console is working it counts as install base

I agree that is bullshit, why are people still bringing that shit up?

I think 360, for it's online.

Actually, his sentiment - though meant as a joke - is far less egregious than your lovely and thoughtful response.

Here's a thought for you... someone who doesn't like gaming isn't going to buy games just because they bought a PS3 as a BD player.

Next time, take off the fanboy goggles, turn on the sarcasm detector and take a deep breath.  Teh interwebz are more fun that way.

that makes no sense that has nothing to do with install base and only about half of 360 owners even have a gold account

If 42% of the current Xbox owners are repeat new buyers (lets just highball it for the fun of it) than1 thing is for sure:

The Xbox 360 sells metricfucktons of software.  The number looks even better when almost half of those (highballing again for fun) are repeat purchases and thus should "really" only count for 1 console.

But really? Does this have to happen?

If they had no intention of using it for anything other then blu ray why the hell would they buy a ps3 instead of a player, they might have bought it primarily for blu ray and thought I can pick up the feel games I actually enjoy playing too, I seriously doubt there are any ps3 owners who have never bought or rented one game (aside from the ones that use it to make supercomputers) let alone 10 million

I know a videophile who bought the PS3 at launch as a Blu Ray player. He doesnt own any games and has never rented a game. He doesnt like playing games !

Plus its in connected to the main family TV so if he's not watching a movie the TV is being used for its primary function by his other half.

Shall I pop round and tell him he doesnt exist ?
