Forums - PC - In need of a pc recommendation

So, my current PC is on its death bed so I need to replace it asap. I know jack about PCs so uhhh :D I have a £300 budget (excluding insurance and all that.) I want something with at least 500gb memory, at least 3 usb ports and everything else is not a big deal, as long as it's fast...ish...

Any ideas?

Do you plan on using it for gaming?

Having 500 gb and enough USB ports is easy... but things like video card, cpu, amount of ram...will differ quite a bit depending on your answer to the question above.

If by gaming rig you mean Crysis level then not really, maybe play old games likes worms 2 or something but mostly for music and general usage like Microsoft word and IE.

So integrated graphics will do?

CPU: Athlon II X3 440 (£57)
Motherboard: Any 880G (£66)
RAM: 2GB DDR3-1333 (£40)
HDD: 500GB (£32)
Case & >400W PSU (~£60)
DVD Drive (£20)

=£275

But you need a Windows license unless you can transfer it from your old PC.

The most basic Dell computer is £329 (slower CPU, the rest mostly the same), I imagine other prebuilts are similar. That includes Windows though.

If you want to play any recent games at all you need a graphics card, and the cheapest one worth buying is £70. But Worms 2 should run on decent integrated graphics like the 880G/GF 9400. Maybe not Intel's.

Yeah, you should be good then no matter what you pick up.

I'd suggest something really basic...like an UK equivalent of Athlon 64 X2 barebone system such as this.

You can add a 500 gb hard drive, DVD writer for another 100 bucks (combined for both), and a basic video card like the 5550 for another 80 bucks...and you're set.

This kind of set up will play most games on mid setting at 720p resolution and is good for everything else.

If you don't have an OS to install or MS Word, it may be wise to go to a retail outlet which includes those with the computer.

disolitude, low end PCs are not nearly that cheap here, and we have high sales taxes.

The lowest end Dell is a 2.8GHz Pentium dual-core 2GB RAM Intel graphics 500GB HDD and that's £329.

I don't think it's possible to buy a cheaper prebuilt unless it's a netbook/nettop. We don't have a Newegg equivalent.

I actually don't know the first thing about constructing a pc, any pre built or what have you?

Gotcha, yeah I have no insight on how much tech things cost in Europe. I know that food is pretty good and really cheap in Eastern Europe and thats it...lol

For Ajescent's situation here, the prebuilt Dell like that may be the best option...

I saw a Dell at Pcworld earlier and it had 500gb with 3gb Ram and some other fancy stuff I know nothing about for £300, only downside is, I dunno how may usb ports it had, only had 1 (or was it 2) on the front, I might go and look at that one again if I can't find a better one.

Not below £300. The very cheapest Dell is £329.
