Forums - Sales - Did GT5 make a profit?

It isn't out yet but I'm assuming the delays were because of the chips and soda budget, the World of Warcraft subscription pool, and the marketing for GT:PSP. Looks like they've lost some profit....

so know its fuzzy maths versus fuzzy bundles estimates.

Nothing "fuzzy" on the latter, we know the actual bundle breakdown in Japan thanks to sales trackers.  According to Famistu...

GT5P (unbundled) 238,578

GT5P Spec III (bundled) 295,174

so japan is now indicative of the rest of the world when it comes to bundled unbundled and does sales trackers include DL and who do they track

So, where did I say that?  All I said was we can't put a per copy return figure on sales universally due to bundling (which was worldwide), and the one region we had specific insight into those figures was Japan (which heavily favored free bundled copies).  Nothing more, nothing less.

Famitsu samples 70% of Japanese retail iirc, and extrapolates the rest.  That's more than NPD even I believe.

that still doesn't answer the DL numbers that Sony/Polophony obviously makes extra profit on plus the thread is basically do you think GT5-P paid for GT5 and the only ones who know for sure are Sony/ Polophony themselves so all we are doing is taking how best guesses and despite the japanese figures he could be right, what about you do you think did GT5-p made enough money or not

Polyphony Digital is also much smaller then other big companies, this would no doubt equal a lower cost in keeping the company running.  I heard Turn10 the makers of Forza, staff around double what Polyphony Digital does.

a lot of turn 10's staff are outside contractors from Australia /Europe etc who handle the car rendering and it is well known that the PD studios are state of the art with  one of Japans best if not the best server set ups, the tale is often told how Yamauchi keeps his rare wine collection inside the  special cool room that houses the servers and that companies from all over japan use it for testing , so they don't spare any expense ,any way Japanese work practice tends to differ from western ones so it can be hard to judge who has the lower fixed costs, but in the PD /Turn10 scheme of things fixed costs mean nothing it is more there gaming  budgets but that is really another topic, this thread  is more about money spent  on GT5 vs money earned from GT5-P, otherwise we could include money earned from developing software for Nissan ,renting out there servers for testing , GT on the psp and a host of other things.
