It's an unreliable source for measuring the quality of anything.
But it's a perfectly reliable source for measuring critical reactions. That's exactly what it's for.
I've never seen a trend of critical responses go so perfectly straight up or down before, and I thought it was hilarious. The guy's name is toxic now. No matter what he does, you mention his name, and people go "Oh, he's gonna have one of those endings again and waste our time, blech," and they stop paying attention. I guess the critics are like that too.
